I read a really interesting analysis of the final episode, which actually redeemed it a bit in my eyes, on Salon.com

http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2007/05/30/heroes/

Quote:
The powers of the heroes and their unpredictable consequences function as an allegory for the asymmetric threats generated by contemporary technology. They reflect the anxieties of an era when Timothy McVeigh can use some farm fertilizer to blow up the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, when Internet hackers threaten to open the sluices of the Hoover Dam, when the cultists of Aum Shinrikyo can poison hundreds on the Tokyo subway with homemade sarin gas, and when a handful of expatriate Arab engineers based in Germany can turn jetliners into flying bombs. Technology is advancing with such rapidity that it is making each individual far more powerful than in the past and bestowing on each individual new capacities that surely not all will deal with responsibly. This passing of a technological threshold, in which a handful of terrorists with a suitcase bomb could potentially destroy a city, will be a particular burden for younger Americans, the kind who prefer "Heroes" to "24," since it will help define the future.

"Heroes" also acknowledges the subjectivity of any discussion of "terror." The show's moral vision is far too nuanced to give aid and comfort to American nationalists. The serial killer in the cast, Sylar, played by Zachary Quinto, is the closest thing "Heroes" has to a pure villain. He seeks out and removes the brains of the other mutants. In the season finale, when it is clear that Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) is the mutant who is in danger of losing control of himself and destroying New York, even Sylar's wickedness becomes ambiguous. Sylar, in a position to rub out Petrelli before the latter explodes, realizes that were he to destroy the time-bomb mutant, he would turn out to be the true hero. He wants to kill Petrelli and save New York, but for the wrong reasons.

What happens next is an implicit argument against Cheney's 1 percent doctrine. Just before Sylar can make himself into a perverse sort of hero by killing Peter Petrelli, Hiro Nakamura runs Sylar through with his samurai sword. Nakamura saves Petrelli, but New York remains endangered. Likewise, cheerleader Claire Bennett is in a position to shoot the human bomb (who once saved her from Sylar) and so to prevent the blast, and Peter Petrelli himself, fearing his own power, implores her to do so. She does not take the shot. Both of these plot twists could be seen as decisive rejections of deploying evil to forestall disaster, and of Cheney's impoverished view of human nature.

Hmmm Season 3. A little rough. A little confusing. I hope Evil Peter isn't around for long. I like Good Peter. What happened to season 2's disease plot? Last I remember Peter's Irish lass was being carted off to some camp. The Indian scientist seemed way too gung ho to shoot himself up with X Men Juice. He was always this careful guy.

They seem to have dumped the campy theme from Season 2 and went back to the darker, tension filled mood of Season 1. But I think Season 3 tried too hard to get back. A bit too dark.

I'll give it a chance. It's on Monday nights here and if it's no better than Season 2 it's a fine way to start the week.

I thought it looked pretty good. Definitely a lot to work with.

I just sat there watching the first two episodes going "what?" If they don't improve, I'm stopping watching it. It's just getting too confusing, complicated, and out there. Kind of like Lost. I think the show was really hurt by the long break. If there hadn't been a break, it probably would have been easier to watch.

for now, I'm waiting to pass judgment, but I hope the next episodes get better.

It's a mess, and the Indian guy's voice overs are enough reason to stop watching. Give it up, stop wasting band-width on this show. It was ok for a while, then they saved the cheerleader. Pretty much should have stopped there.

I stopped watching that show after only a few episodes in season one. No way I'll watch it again. Same with Lost. Never seen it and don't want to.

I had to go back and rewatch the last couple eps of season 2 to remember what threads they picked up. Here's the 411:

The Aryan killer woman with the miscegenation kid was killed in a crack house explosion. A subtle warning to race traitors? Odd she looked pretty good in her casket for being immolated by fire. A plot hole or a plot device? Not sure what happened to Uhura or the daughter who can watch TV and do whatever. The daughter might have gotten pregnant between seasons and is looking for the father.

The whitey rice boy who lived forever was buried alive by the Japanese nerd time traveler. Foreshadowing of what the Chinaman is about to do to the American economy.

Sylar (Shylar... Shylock!) got away with a vial of the cheerleader's blood and between season 2 and 3 cured his power loss, although not his hooked nose. A solid reference to the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and blood rituals.

The cheerleader's flying boyfriend "took off" when he feared the cheerleader would "out" him and he could no longer have a beard. Yeah, great cover, no one will think you're a nancy boy if you're squiring around the head cheerleader. You didn't fool me, you Queen.

I've given up. While I'm relieved to hear of the demise of the "ricey white boy" with the appallingly bad accent, I just couldn't stand Peter and his "Irish" friends (more bad accents there) and the mopey Mexicans. Now I hear Mama Petrelli has another super-child! It's just too much of a convoluted, crappy soap opera.

You may be right. But the mother had a dream that foretold the return of the rice boy with the bad accent.

Before or after Evil Peter changed the future?

Ep 4:

Shylar has a kid and is nice. His kid dies so he goes nuke. How'd Peter and the whole bunch get away?

Hiro uncorks the rice boy from his grave.

Peter gets Shylar's watch fixing ability and also gets his hunger for killing people 'n' stuff?

The fat cop gets the future painting ability?

The camel jock scientist turns into a lizard or something?

Meh.

I am quite lost too atm

I haven't seen Ep.4 but i'll give you my interpretation.

Sylar is trying hard to fulfill a destiny
Claire is having an Identity crisis
The mind reading copper will have some minuscule but determined effect on the outcome.
Petrelli is trying very hard to keep the future bright for everyone.
The mother of Petrelli has other plans (what the hell is her power again?)
Ice-Queen, i don't predict much for her
The doctor wanted to test his theory and the easiest subject was himself, and yes he is changing into soe kind of reptile. My guess is a nocturnal reptile .....

I just see to many plot holes.
1. Petrelli could have silenced his brother in a different way, why shoot him?
2. Future Petrelli is working together with now Petrelli, there are no time continuum issues? Did now Petrelli copy all the abilities of his future self?
3. Why did Claire loose the ability to feel pain?
4. These Level 5 chumps were way too easy. Sylar just has to blink his eye lid ffs.
5. Sylar now knows his "real" past, and changed his behavior accordingly. They must go deeper into that.

The problem is, once you start playing with time as freely as they do, anything can happen. It gives them a huge freedom to do whatever. That sucks, once you control time by blinking your eyes ..... you can do whatever you want, change whatever needs changing. thus there is no point in any other ability.
I guess Hiro is a bit of a loser, because he has no Destiny and needs his daddy to give him one .... and then he messes up, even though he controls time.

Powers should be checked by a certain "cost" of using it. There is no cost in using your powers, thus they can be applied freely and you can achieve anything.

I'm just about in the same boat as you, and I think my wife has totally given up. Same goes for Terminator, although the last episode was an improvement.

Whatever happened to Peter being invincible? I was pretty sure he got the healing power from the cheerleader in Season 1, but future Peter dies when he gets shot. The whole series would make a lot more sense if Peter's powers would actually make sense. Also, why did he never get Sylar's abilities(not the watchmaking one but the secondary ones like telekinesis) until season 3?

I want to know why Hiro just doesn't go back in time and put a benign formula in the safe and keep the real formula somewhere else. I also wonder just what the he!! really happened when Hiro stabbed Ando.
