Hey, I heard there was a bike shop in Ulsan where the owner speaks decent English. I've been living here a few months but havn't found it yet. I was wondering if anyone could help me out or recommend another bike shop where they speak a bit of English. |

There are two bike shops where they speak 'a bit of English' as you say.
The main one. They have an ad that appeared in the Ulsan foreigner's newspaper/periodical (forget the name of that. don't know if it's still printing). The main one is not far from Homeplus. Get to Homeplus. Then head out towards the airport on the same main drag Homeplus is on. It'll be on the right near the top of the hill. A tall, thin building with a motorbike on top of the building.
I didn't like that place much, too expensive and they tended to be smartasses. I heard they have a contract with the police maintaining their cop-cycles so don't really need business. But they advertise as being foreigner friendly. If you need them they'll help you. Just expensive with some attitude.
That was just my experience. I went there five times or so.
Then I found this other place.
The other place. Gulliver it's called. (052) 293 6804 Handphone 011 9311-4443. The business card I have is from five years ago. I assume the shop is still there. The guy is really friendly and so are the staff. I'd go over and we'd eat lunch together. There is a huge storage area that's interesting, like an 'elephant graveyard' (for bike parts). Once the thread on the rear view mirror went. Meant replacing the brake cylinder. They just welded a mirror on for free. Saavy. Liked those guys alot. Or a flat. Came out in his truck to pick up the bike, back to the shop, plug the flat, 10 bucks. Love those guys. They replaced a Vulcan 500 front fork that got hit with a used one they happened to have in the 'elephant (bike part) graveyard). 350 bucks. Not too bad. I'd recommend this place.

The last time I was there was five years ago? Do you know the Imjin (Japanese invasion of Korea in mid 1500's) fort in downtown Ulsan by the river. It's not far from Walmart (I guess Walmart is something else now). Gullivers is in that general area.
I'd suggest getting a Kcoteacher to phone Gullivers. I assume they're still there. If the phone number has changed she can try directory assistance. With a phone number just give it to a cab driver and the taxi can take you there. From then on you'll know its whereabouts and can get there on your motorbike. |

Anybody know of other english speaking shops in Ulsan? I called both numbers for Gulliver with no response, number disconnected.
My bike ran out of electricity last week, and I'm sick of push starting it. Any advice?
Thanks in advance! |

They are all over down here in Dong-Gu. I am not sure about the level of English, but a battery shouldn't be hard to mime out. I am looking for an English speaking one myself. |

I did find a shop off of Bangojin that had an employee who could speak a bit of engrishee. The guy said his name was Jay. They seem to have a strange schedule though. I found the place coming home from school one night (~9:30). But for the last few weeks, they haven't been open.
Anyways, let me know if you wanna take a ride sometime. There are alot of great roads in the area. |

Bangojin - My neck of the woods! I would go for a ride if I had a bike. Still on the fence regarding the purchase. |
