I finished a contract last March with a public school and left the country before my visa expired. I"m now in Korea on a tourist visa and am about to start working for a school..
All of my documents are up to specifications, but it seems that I overstayed a visa in years past. This is causing some sort of delay with my confirmation number and my employer is wondering if I'll have to go to Guam to get the visa instead of Japan.
Will I be issued a number despite the overstay?
Will I have to pay a fine as a result of the overstay?
Why wasn't this past overstay mentioned when I received my last two E2 visas? ( WITHOUT A HITCH )

| I think, because theres a black mark on your file, you have to do an interview at an embassy? |

I had a teacher with an overstay. He endedup having to go back to Canada to have an interview because of the black mark in his file. It did not make it more difficult for us to get an issuance number, but it was a pain to put him on a plane and wait the extra week it took to do the interview and have his visa processed. There was no fine for him, but every time he changes contracts he will need to return to Canada for an interview.
As to why this wasn;t a problem in the past. Well, in the past immigration was a lot more lienient about these things, but due to many recent events they have decided to stick to the rules as they are wrtten. Currently the rule says that if you have a black mark, you need to have an interview. Now, as you are probably aware, it all comes down to the individual immigration officers mood, if your lucky - very lucky- you might just need to make a run to Japan.
