As of this moment, there are 99 days and 1 hour and 44 minutes, and 19 seconds to go until George Bush (and Dick Cheney) leaves office.

Will we make it? Will Bush make it?
I assume this will be something to celebrate. But this would depend upon who you are supporting to replace Bush. If my candidate loses, I'm afraid we might look back upon the last eight years as the good old days.

I miss the good old days. Remember when the presidential campaign was all about oil drilling? That sure was fun.
I miss August. August was neat. The Dow was over 10,000 and nobody had ever heard of Sarah Palin.
Remember how we used to joke about John McCain looking like an old guy yelling at kids to get off his lawn? It�s only in retrospect that we can see that the keep-off-the-grass period was the McCain campaign�s golden era. Now, he�s beginning to act like one of those movie characters who steals the wrong ring and turns into a troll.
During that last debate, while he was wandering around the stage, you almost expected to hear him start muttering: �We wants it. We needs it. Must have the precious.�
Remember when McCain�s campaign ads were all about his being a prisoner of war? I really miss them. |

My guess is if we asked Bush to stay on for another four years, he would shoot himself. This guy is outta gas.
Cross your fingers. Let's hope we can avoid any more disasters until then. There's still two weeks to go in the hurricane season.

No, but you WILL get hear about how all the problems the liberals and dems will be spending time on directly tgrace back to failed conservative republican policies.
On a personal note, I had made a personal vow several years ago not to sent foot back on American soil while "that guy" was still sleeping in the White House - I've violated that promise only when I've had to do some business in an embassy.
Anyway, I'm starting to plan a vacation back home for next spring. Yosemite Valley, high on the list ...
I'm wondering, Gatsby, can you alter the thread title evey morning to reflect the countdown? That would be swell. |

Not at all. Why do you think so? It's more than just disagreeing with the policies of one president, odious though I do find them to be.
I vote as an American, but I consider myself, as Gus Hiddink once said, a "citizen of the world." I don't like what has happened to America since Bush came to power, especially since 9/11. And, yes, I'm one of those people who blame Bush for it even happening - there was a memo, and a briefing, a clear warning that was ignored - but especially for the choices made that came later. Every single one of those choices have been shown by history to have been disastrous.
The times I've been back, it has seemed to me that the country and the mindset of people had changed dramatically since I first came abroad, and in ways I don't care for, to say the least.
I'm a resident of this little planet, number one, and after that I identify myself by my profession. My allegiance to the US comes after several things - and I have no allegiance to this administration at all. In fact, I hates it, I truly do, because of the terrible state it has left my country in.
And there are a lot of places I can go on vacation besides "back home." But I confess I'm curious to see if the unpleasantness I observed last time I was back there has altered.
And, sure, I do think that President Obama will be good for America. Mainly, though, I see his election as a symptom of something positive starting to happen. I think that's what it might be. I've been looking for something positive to happen to my country, and I've been disappointed for quite a while. |

Exile is an extreme option. Self-imposed or voluntary exile is even more extreme. Especially in a nation-state that does not exile its citizens.
No matter. Just think: when you lie down to sleep on 19 January 2009, it will be like Christmas Eve when you were a child -- only better, in your case, I imagine, where ideology probably trumps Christmas. |

It's an exercise of personal preference, no more. I decide where I want to live, where I take my vacations, and I gave my reasons. You can argue with the reasons I gave, or you can continue with the labels and personal insults. Whatever floats your boat, dude.
Your sarcastic pose, by the way ... it's a sad little sour-grapes display brought on by the fact that you know that your candidate will lose and - deep down I think you know it's true, also - that the Republican ticket, were it to win, would be bad for America. Just like the last 8 years have been bad for America.
And that's where things are with the GOP today, too - they are becoming the party of sarcasm and negativity, not the party that has solutions for the problems Americans face. It didn't use to be that way. The Repuglicans have fallen so far since the Reagan years ...

The only way I would have considered this election "a loss" would have been had M. Huckabee, D. Kucinich, or R. Paul won. |

You know, I thought it was only 30 days away. By the end of this time (99 days- what's that three months?) Obama is going to be a has-been and start putting his fingers into jars getting weary and ready for retirement.
Wouldn't be surprised if (by then) free thinking turns to custard. |
