| Looking for some halloween ideas to do with the kids. What games do you usually play or activities besides the normal candy giving? |

| I show my MS kids Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror14. It's really funny. There are three episodes in one so it's easy to break up. I show the first and last show, the second one isn't funny and it has nudity in it. |

I spend a whole month on Halloween with my afterschool programme students (grage 2 and 3). The www.mes-english.com website has some good materials on it. Students learn all of the vocab on the sheets. We make hallowwen cards. Play "run home' = one student hides at the end of the classroom, other students pretend they are going for a walk and have conversations in English ("Oh what a beautiful day. look at the flowers" etc). When they get to the end of the room the student jumps out and acts out their part (vampire/mummyetc). The other students have to guess what they are "Are you a .......?" when they guess correctly the vampire can chase and try to catch them. They must run home to safety.
On the last day of the month we have a party and play pin the nose on the witch, eat donuts with no hands, touch and guess what's in the box (peeled grapes =eyeballs etc). I give candy to different teachers and the students dress up and go trick or treating. On you tube there are some casper the ghost cartoons that are good-- the older ones have really basic language are very easy to understand good for beginners.
hope this helps. |

I LOVE doing Halloween lessons. I did one in my high school last year and it went off really well.
Mummy wrapping contests are always fun for kids and teens. I also showed them a ppt about the history of the holiday and then followed up with a multiple choice quiz/game... not sure that would be good for elementary though. Maybe upper grades. Usually the sillier the questions and/or mult. answers, the better.
Slide shows of costumes from youtube and also videos of pranks are really cool.
My favorite is having them shove marshmellows (or rice cakes) into their mouths and trying to say some tough word or expression in English without spitting anything out. The kid who gets the most into his/her mouth while still being able to say the word wins. It could turn pretty nasty though with little kids, I suppose.
Then there's always whiteboard taboo. You can pre-teach words like zombie, frankestein, goblin... etc and play taboo with them making one student sit with his back to the board while the class has to help him guess the monster without using whatever taboo words you create. Usually turns into a rambunctous class.
For certain levels, Halloween madlibs are really cool too. I don't actually think any of these ideas are new. They've just worked really well for me with kids and adults over the past couple of years.
Good luck and Happy H day. |

Whenever you put the young ones in motion, 2 or 3 of them fall flat on their face. I think it's better to have a soft foamy ball they can throw instead. |
