I seem to recall that Twain was a Christian and puritanically moral. Perhaps the fact that Satan narrates most of the story, while exiled from Heaven no less, is meant to cast doubt on his perspective. Or maybe the story is just irreverance for its own sake. Does anyone think they know what Twain's intention was? |

All right, will check it out.
I think Twain was very critical of Christianity. It sure looks that way from the "Letters." He didn't seem to hold the average person in high esteem either. |
