I've got a friend in the military and he asked me to go to Camp Casey with him this weekend. I'm in the process of getting a visa for China so I don't have my passport, would my ARC and/or Canadian driver's license suffice?

Yes. I went with my ARC and Canadian license to the Yongsan base with no problems. I needed both though, so don't forget one of them!

Take your passport just in case. I've gotten onto Casey with nothing and also with my ARC. My sister went Tuesday and had to have her passport. And to get onto Osan I've need my passport.

yikes. I've got a photocopy of my passport and visa; hopefully along with my ARC and driver's license they'll let me in.

It may depend on which country you are from.

An ARC card (that has your photo on it) may suffice. A driver's license may also help. A passport would also be good. You may be ok with Camp Casey, but then again, things may change.

I'm a Canadian, and I got in with an expired driver's licence. Although one of my GI friends had to leave his own ID behind for collateral.

Why bother going to the base? Unless your hair is very short and the staff is incredibly lazy, you wont get away with buying anything. If your buddy buys you a years supply of deodorant, or whatever it is you're going there for, it will look kind of suspicious. Remember, they're not supposed to help us.

I've only been to the base once, but I loved it. True, I couldn't buy anything, but all the greenery and nice buildings, good restaurants and cafes, and the lack of shoving and the abundance of "excuse me"s made it all worth going.

you won't have any issues getting on base with your ARC (which takes precedence over your passport on a US mlitary base in Korea) and an additional form of ID - whether it's a driver's license or your passport. unless you are extremely suspicious looking, you should be fine.

Just climb the wall. U.S. soldiers are renowned for their collective sense of humour and love nothing more than for people to test their security drills. Once inside, run around shouting, 'I have a bomb!' repeatedly until you are found. They will then all have a big laugh with you and buy you lots of beer.

I am an Army veteran and I would love it if they allowed us to occasionally go on base (not retired, just 4 years). I am planning a big trip this winter and would love to take some USD with me and not have to pay the Korean banks their stupid exchange rate. I assume you can take USD out of the ATMs on base? At least we could when I was back in Germany many, many moons ago...
