How patriotic are you? What would you do for your country if its existence as an independent entity was under threat from an outside force whose philosophy/political system you strongly disagreed with had a high probability of conquering and subjugating your nation?

If you would like to choose two poll options or none of them fit then contribute only in a reply instead of voting. Or you could vote then qualify it if you like.. I don't mind^^

I'm from the UK, and personally I'd say that I'd contribute a few thousand bucks and fight with a 1/50 chance of dying. I like my country a fair bit, but I wouldn't do much more than that. I would do the same for S. Korea. I have quite fond feelings for this place despite its shortcomings.

I'd be wanting to join the forces that be to fight for a cause. To save our ownership of our lands.

This could become a very real scenario for America when it defaults on it's debts to China and China looks to take our precious natural resources in lieu of late or never payment from us. Our vast amounts of land still sitting in a natural state of being.

The Chinese would divvy up the national parks for colonization (homesteading) and populate America big time if they get it. It would suck bit time and it already does with how they rule in the small business world instead of Americans being in small business.

Well, that argument would only work if there was actually a rebel-UK-alliance which I *wasn't* part of.

(I MUST be clear here, and say that ANY rebel UK alliance I might or might not possibly be part of would NOT be "insurgents" or "terrorists", we'd be patriot freedom fighters. There's a BIG BIG BIG difference between a freedom fighter who loves his country and hates foreign invaders and a terrorist or an insurgent. *Big* difference.)

What a wierd poll.

Ever since leaving my country for a long time, I feel a much diminished willingness to sacrifice for it. I guess I'm fairly self-absorbed.

It sounds like you're doing a brave thing by fighting for your country, but when you are lying face down dying alone in a dirty field a thousand miles from home, with your guts spilling out and you've shit your pants, you have to ask yourself if it was really worth it.

Nationalism is stupid and would never in a million years fight for a country.

I would fight for some people in that country, but that's different thing.

Blade, can you give us your input on the topic? What would you do?

I voted a 1/50th risk of dying, but the risk in a fight is impossible to quantify. I'd go schizo if my country was threatened. Well it is. There's every reason to feel a bit paranoid about what's to come, because it's obviously not good at all.

Some of you pinko fockers would elect Obama. Unwise. You're the same martha fockers who've never served your country. You can only live off it's bounty until it gets a little hard up and then complain that your needs aren't being met.

See? Look what you started.

I'd fight if my country was invaded, in order to defend the country. But, going to another country as an invader/liberator, that would be questionable. Often liberators are viewed as occupiers if they stay a little too long.
