THE SALEM TROLL TRIALS

Well that's what it seems like sometimes. I just must be way out on chat board culture, because I don't understand why someone would be suspected of 'trolling' for posting such information, in this case the death of a seriously depressed person. Why would anyone write a false post like that? Why?

And, if you suspect that someone is doing that, why respond in an accusatory tone when you could never be sure? If you think it is a troll, why don't you just leave it?

If someone is so incredibly bored that they would invent stuff to get a rise out of a bunch of people they don't know, then they don't need to be named and shamed, they must surely already know how sad they are.

I've also wondered how many ESL teachers in Korea end up killing themselves.

With no-one to help them, that anger is turned towards themselves. Suicide is the result of a deep, immobilizing depression. I'm no psychologist but to think of suicide as selfish and cowardly

It 's cowardly. And to try to justify as not being os sad. I got a $1,000 solution to all the depressed people. FLY HOME! FLY TO THAILAND AND *beep* AROUND TILL YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE KILLING YOURSELF! It's gutless pure and simple, a cowards way out. Teens it's different, they hav't gown-up yet, but adults it's just a waste. No offence to those in morning but good ridence. If you're too scared to live your life it was wasted on you and you never deverved it.

Dude, you haven't committed suicide, but obviously your words apply to yourself

There is not much wrong with my reading skill. One does not have to view MBC, or its website, to know that it carried the story. Perhaps indiglo was told by someone else that the story was carried there.

"I found out tonight that the story was on the MBC news". There are, I would think, more ways than one to find something out.

Therefore, I regret to inform you that I will not be accompanying you to reading class. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

That's too bad. Sorry to hear that. Since I will be teaching this class, there are a few things you might have learned. I agree that indiglo may have been told by someone else, but in that case the information was definitely third-hand and should have been stated as such. Generally speaking when someone said "I found out tonight that the story was on the MBC news" is different then saying "someone told me that the story was on the MBC news".

Anyway if this story is true, (I haven't seen anything like this on MBC) my condolences to the OP and apologies for doubting him.

I live my wife to the fullest. And its pathetic that so many of you aren't angry about suicide. It is the most cowardly of acts a person can commit. It takes more balls to rob old ladies than it does to kill yourself. What do you all think is so brave about suicide? It's the act of a coward and a fool. If you can't respect your own life enough to live it, than why the hell should I?

The original poster is indeed correct, and I think that apologies are in order. This was in the news, but unfortunately only in Korean. Here's a link: http://news.media.daum.net/society/affair/200312/29/newsis/v5886811.html

My condolences to the teacher's family. I hope he found the peace he was looking for.

Here's the original along with my translation:

On the twentyninth at 8:28 a.m., an American hogwon teacher named Lizesky (sp?) (31 years old, American hogwon teacher) who lived at Building 209 of JooGong Apartments, Wol-Pyeong Dong, Seo Gu, Daejeon was discovered by his wife, Mrs. Hwang (29 years old), hanging by the neck from the laundry rack, and reported it to the police.

Mrs. Hwang said "When I came home from work the day before I found my husband very drunk." and "He felt bad about his life living away from his home."

Ȳ " ͺ ־" " Ȱϴ ڽ ó ؿԾ" ߴ.

The police suspected that Mr. Lizesky committed suicide as a reaction to his situation and they are investigating for more details.

Damn if that ain't the burn of all burns Razz

Now how about some people get back to reality that suicide is very REAL and for all you know, someone you work with, or know could be thinking of it. As I mentioned earlier, the holiday season has the most suicides.

It maybe cowardly, but those who do it have something seriously wrong - a sickness if you will. If you know someone who is depressed a lot, try to help em out!

Thanks Son Deureo! for posting the story. It's a real tragedy. As a counselor, I'm very much aware that clinical, depression , loneliness, SAD, panic/anxiety disorders, etc. tend to be hightened between Dec. & March ~especially during the holidays.

I personally think that a few people who are experiencing a kind of mild depression come to Korea and their lives take a total turn for the better. Change can be VERY good for some of us. While many others come over and find that "the raft is not the shore" and feel more out of sorts than ever. Possibly, returning to one's home country's community might be a very helpful suggestion.

I've also seen certain individuals find the community & support that they need here in Korea and seen people experience much change for the better and am very encouraged by this. Yet, we are very much lacking in having a sense of social net here in Korea. One of my goals is to help put together a network that is bigger than just FOCUS in the Seoul area that stretches to most cities around Korea. Getting counselors, psychiatrists, trained clergy, etc. who we can refer people to who are in need. Would appreciate any help or ideas from all of you.

Yet, in the end I'm left wondering what can I learn from this?

Warmest Regards,
Harpeau

It looks like the only person that needs to upgrade some english skills is you. Just like jd put it, he heard the news, not it on the news.

Better add Reading 101.

Read the post at the top of page 2. It clearly states he heard it on the MBC news. Better work on those English skills.[/quote]

Okay, moron, he didn't originally say anything about that he "heard it on MBC news".

Are you really a teacher? Learn to read in order.

Generally speaking, how could you be "teaching" the class when you said diver would be "alongside" you. Would you like me to quote you on that again?

That information should have been stated as such.

How are those english skills going? Embarassed

I am going to add my 2 cents worth now. Tiberious you would have to be the most judgemental piece of shit I have ever heard on this board. And as for you man Kind.....You come second as the biggest piece of shit on here. Here is a man that was desperate. For those of us that have a Korean missus, it can be a hard slog at times and having one that cheats on you would make it all the more worse. Even though you have apologised Tiberious you will be someone that I can never take seriously again with a stupid attitude like that. My sincere condolences to the family and his friends. I hope all of the 'decent' foreigners can help people who are in this situation next time.

People are dying all over the place right this second. Are we supposed to stop living, bow our heads, and maintain a respectful silence? Don't be silly. Or does the fact that it's in your own backyard make it more important?

This is exactly what I thought was wrong with the OP....someone comes on not to mourn the death of someone he knew...or to tell us who it was (in case someone knew him) but rather to use this tragedy to spread rumours.

The OP admitted to not knowing the man very well and yet knew enough to accuse his wife of sleeping around. Now with absolutely no proof of this, someone else has fed into the rumour. So we have some poor woman who just lost her husband and her life is being talked about on some ESL board where people are accusing her of adultery.

Who exactly is being insensitive...if not the OP and others now feeding the rumours of this family's personal life.....?????
