After a couple months of searching for quality used Plasma TVs, I can't find a suitable TV and come to the conclusion that I'm just going to buy a new one.

Meanwhile, in a couple years I will most likely sell the TV on this site, so I'm curious what others would pay for a used Plasma.

I'll buy either a 42 or 50 inch LG X-Canvas or Samsung PAVV. What would you pay for a 2 year old Plasma TV? (Either 42 or 50 inch)

Assume the 42-inch is 850,000 - 900,000 won new and the 50-inch goes for about 1.2 million.

It would really depend on the price of the new tv's at the time.

I would say if you bought it 900,000 now, you could expect to sell it for around 500,000-600,000 after 2 years.

Of course, it would depend on the brand Samsung's have a higher resale value over LG.

I wouldn't sell the TV on here though. You'll get spliffed.

It won't be worth much in two years time as televisions are like computers - they lose their value quickly and they are superseded quickly as well.

A year ago 32 inch plasmas were going for 800-900,000, and a 42inch was around 1.2m -1.4m, now it is a 42 inch for the lower price.

so if you buy a 42 inch now for 800-900,000, in two years time you'll probably be selling it for 100-200,000 as new ones will probably be only 400-500,000.

If the TV is in proper condition 1/4 of the price?

TV's don't last 20 years these days, it';s more like 5 years.

The CHEAPEST 32" Samsung PAVV I can find is ~850,000w new, and thats not FullHD.

In 2 years, that TV will still go for around ~600,000. In 2 years, a new 32" PDP/LCD TV will still be about the 700,000w mark. Instead of lowering the prices, which manufacturers DON'T want, they'll just keep adding features to give it more value.

Either way, I expect the OP to get at 50% of the cost of the TV back.

200,000-300,000 is ridiculous. Whoever quoted that is an idiot. 32" CRT's are still MORE expensive than that.

After 3-4 years, I can see 200,000-300,000w price, but not after 2.

PKang, yeah, I'm thinking along your lines.

To the others, I appreciate your attempts, but I don't think you guys have actually done any searching for used TVs.

32-inch TV's are still being sold on Dave's for way more than what you guys are talking about. It's virtually impossible to find a good 42- or 50-inch TV for sale, so in fact that would be a product in high demand.

PKang, I personally think 500-600 would be really lucky; too lucky for me to get. Smile

Also, I'm thinking of getting X-Canvas due to a lower purchase price. In that case I think getting back 400,000 would be fair.

I picked up a nice 32" PAVV LCD used last year. It's a great TV. Some people would surely say that I overpaid, but given what new LCDs were selling for at that time, I am satisfied with the amount I paid (which was quite a bit more than the suggested 1-200,000 as someone suggested yours would be worth in two years). That is prepostorous.

Thanks for the input. How old was the used PAVV that you bought? Where did you buy it?

I agree that someone saying that 100,000 to 200,000 for a used plasma tv is highly unlikely.

The previous owner (FT) bought it new and had it less than a year. I think I found it for sale on English Spectrum. Good luck in your decision!

My experience with buying expensive things like LCD and plasma tvs, home theaters etc in Korea is that you can probably expect about 50% or less of the original price (if you bought it within the last year) when you go to sell it. The older it gets, the less it's worth. This is true back home though.

I bought a 42 inch LCD in mid-2007 for 2 million, ended up selling it for 600,000 in mid-2008, and got countless ridiculous emails with offers like 200,000 etc.

My advice if you are not staying for a long time, try to spend as little as possible, buy a used one, if it's just a year or two old, it will last for your entire stay in Korea. It's even worse with more expensive things like imported cars etc. Your best bet with selling expensive things is to have a Korean person help you post them on a Korean website. If that's not possible, then BUY A USED ONE!! Lots of people arrive here, buy a nice TV, then leave 8 months later. so they pop up for sale frequently. A used TV is going to depreciate less than a new TV will.

1080P at 32" is a waste. It's too small a TV to enjoy the resolution over 768p (1366x768).

At those screen sizes, you need to worry more about color bits. A regular LCD TV at 1080p is still somewhere around 8 to 11 bit color. A computer monitor is what... 16 to 32 bits? I forget which. Huge quality difference which is exponentially noticeable at the closer distances you'd need to even notice 1080p on a 32" TV.

Anyway, the truth is that 1080p at 32" is pretty much useless, given viewing distances of 5 feet away or more.

Hasn't been an LCD TV or PDP TV on sale here for a LONG time.

Only 24" or smaller LCD Monitors.
