For you high school teachers. What have you done for high school Halloween lessons?

I'm a bit stumped as to what to do. I want to make an interesting lesson without resorting to just games. My students range from amazing ability to bad at best.

If you have any ideas, I'd like them. I tried searching but I'm having search engine failure.

I teach middle school, but I think the lesson I've been teaching would probably work better for high school anyways.

I started off by asking the students to tell me what they know about Halloween. I wrote key words up on the board (vampire, jack-o-lantern, ghost, etc.). I then told them that on Halloween, we like to tell scary stories. I ask if they know any scary stories from Korea (the Red Mask always pops up). We discuss this for a few minutes.

Then, I challenge them to write their own scary story. It can be a re-telling of one they already know, or they can make up their own. I spend about 10 minutes going over the parts of a story (once upon a time... one day... etc.) I then let them write. While they are writing, I walk around and help with words they don't know.

Also, I make it clear at the beginning that I don't care if they make mistakes in their writing. I want them to practice! Fluency seems to be a big problem at my school, so error correction wasn't a priority at the moment.

After class I collected all the stories and gave prizes to the best three in the next class. Overall it worked out really well. I was pleasantly surprised how many creative ideas I received! I would think this would be even better for high schoolers as they focus more on writing anyways.
