|
|
Hello team,
Hope you are all well in your respective corners of the Earth. Quick question: I have finished my online TEFL cert and am about to be thrust into the EPIK application process. My placement advisor said that they will be contacting me via the telephone for an interview and I was just wondering what sort of questions to expect.
Will there be many technical questions (How much prep time should I take beforehand?)? Are they allowed to ask very personal questions? Has anyone ever had a bad experience in an EPIK interview?
Thank you for all the great info! You are all legendary in my book.
All the best,
Matthew |

They just call to make sure you're alive and breathing. Once that is confirmed, the job is yours.
That and some basic questions anyone could just BS through. Why you applied, what makes you a good candidate for the program, etc. |

Yeah, it's not so much an interview. They just want to hear your voice, and make a judgement as to whether or not you'll be friendly. I wasn't asked anything at all...literally. |

don't sweat it. It lasts about 10 minutes and they just ask you the normal questions said above. They did ask me if I could get TEFL certified before I came but nevertheless they offered me a position in less than 12 hrs. It'll be cake for you.
btw Kiwi that avatar is disgusting. |

Well now I feel like crap for being rejected by EPIK. They told my recruiter is was for health reasons, but I think it's because I'm black and/or fat. I'm on meds, but I am perfectly fine with them. Guess I'll move to another recruiter. |

so forget about EPIK, if you're looking to teach in Busan there are other ways of getting there. Have you tried SMOE for Seoul? I'm not really sure about racial profiling but I'm sure it happens. Which recruiter are you using ? ESL-planet was who set my interview up. But, dude, there are plenty of jobs out there. |

lindihop, when I said there are other ways of teaching in Busan I meant Hogwans. I don't know with certainty that EPIK is the only way to teach in public school in Busan, but that doesn't seem right. I don't really know. You should make a thread. |

These are the questions I got
Do you know of any famous Koreans?
How would you teach a large class of beginners?
Have you ever been to Korea before?
How would you deal with Culture shock? |

I kid you not, they rang me just to make sure i wasnt an indian!
If you get turned down by EPIK you know its time to end your sad pathetic little life!!!
Good luck with the process.
PS read the contract very carefully, make sure you keep your copy of the contract, guard it with your life!
I have heard rumors on the grape vine what the new EPIK contract is like. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I'll leave it at that! |

You can listen to rumors, or go to the EPIK site and read it for yourself. |

I interviewed with a recruiter for GEPIK and they asked me if I had AIDS in between two innocuous questions about teaching children, and if I'd been to Korea before. So yeah, don't be surprised if they ask that ... hesitating on that answer may not look so good. |
