A fantastic little camera.
Make sure you get a good SD card for it. And don't trust those 133X, 150X logos on Korean brands. You'll mostly be paying for junk.
Stick to good old Sandisk or Panasonic High Speed (make sure it's not bootleg--you'll be amazed how much bootleg is out on the market), and you won't be disappointed.
I used a Korean brand 133X card, and it sucked. I couldn't get more than 12 frames in before the buffer would quit on me. I popped in an older more reliable card from NA, and low and behold it suddenly pushed that 12 frame limit to 30. I've ordered a Sandisk Extreme 3 from a reputable vendor in Korea, and can't wait to finally get a consistent 100 frames at 2.5 frames per second buffer!
How many pictures have I missed because of this! I'd rather not think about it. And here I thought there was something wrong with my camera.
By the way, if you're from the US, buy yours off Ebay, and then have a family member carefully wrap it up, and send it to you as a gift. Better yet, if you know someone coming over, have them bring it. I got mine off Ebay fro about 330, but I've seen them go recently for about 280-290 for Factory demos. The vendor's name is Cameta Cameras. Reliable seller. |

i'd also agree that a D40 would be a great starter camera.
you can get them in korea for around 455,000 won ... that's new and with a base lens (18-55mm)
for that price, i'd get a new one.
regarding SD cards, i agree with seoulnpepe ... why would you spend 450k on a camera, then skimp on memory ... especially when you lose your valuable photos due to faulty cards.
sandisk, transcend and other recognised brands are the best. to verify that they are genuine, each card will have a hologram sticker on the box. put that sticker on the SD card itself and your card is guaranteed for life.
i wrote a guide to korean camera buying, you can see it here:
