Do Americans really see McCain as a villian? I think he is an ok guy, just he'll probably keel over before the end of the next term and would never vote for Sarah Palin.

McCains mom is still alive. She is in her 90's.

I would not call J. McCain "an incompetent politician" any more than I would call a football team that loses the Superbowl the same thing. McCain retired as a Navy captain. Do you think the Navy gives such ranks away?

Okay, lemme fine-tune it for ya here. McCain is a politician, conducting a campaign incompetently. Yes, to some extent, all politicians just play the hand that theyre dealt. But McCain has played this hand particularly badly, and many of the things that have gone wrong have been the direct result of decisions he made. Exhibit A, Sarah Palin. Contra Kuros, I do think that this will be analyzed by future politican historians as an incredibly bad decision by McCain. There surely MUST have been another Religious Right-friendly candidate with more crossover appeal to the mainstream.
