|
|
I've decided to chuck everything next February and go Koh Samui for the
entire month. (I used to do this like clockwork every year, but for some
reason I haven't for the past few)
Anyway, I sent out some email to travel agents and got some pretty
huge price swings:
This is for: Incheon-Bangkok-Samui (return)
yong hun kwon: 1,276,000KRW
SOHO Travel: 1,275,900KRW
Shoestring Travel: 1,496,000KRW
Unique Travel: 1,250,000KRW
Kangsan Travel: 854,400KRW
Needless to say I went with Kangsan. It pays to shop around. |

| I recently did the same thing. I noticed the same strange phenomenon. The prices were vastly different. I went to Cathay Pacific's site and put in my information on Saturday. A few clicks later, I was a happy camper with a $495 round trip ticket to Bangkok. Sometimes, it pays to go directly to the airlines. That being said, it is also my experience that booking your own flight to Samui usually works out easier than having a travel agent do it. Only two airlines fly the route. |

Those fares are tax included. The tax these days is like 300,000 to
400,000!!! What's up with that? |

| I've always found Kangsan to have pretty much the best prices as far as Korean travel agencies are concerned. |

| Another thing to keep in mind are the carriers and routes. I was shopping around for fares to Vietnam and found that the cheapest flights have the cr@piest routes and departure/return times. |

Why would I sleep there? Personally, I really like Hong Kong airport. It has free wireless, and I have been through there plenty of times. My layover is 2 hours and 45 minutes outbound and 55 minutes coming back. That is hardly time for sleeping. However, it is time to open the laptop and sink a few beers at the Thai restaurant. |

Some airlines screwed themselves by purchasing a bulk fuel when it was high, in hopes of securing a good price should it go higher. They are stuck at a certain high rate from last summer for several months.
Others are able to take advantage of cheaper fuel prices now.
Prices are still really high overall, though.
Also, agents can purchase blocks of tickets at different times, and I'll bet many of them bought blocks when prices were high. This could end up killing some of them off. |
