| Can someone explain what makes the yen go up and the won down? The won have more of a dependency on the dollar? |

My wife made a comment about how shocked she was that so many foreigners are pulling their money out of Korea.
I made a comment that Korea is now getting its come-uppance for being so tough on foreign business and investment, and she smacked me in the shoulder.
She wasn't too happy about that. |

This is actually good news for Korea.
If the Yen goes up Japanese exports become more expensive. Since the Japanese and Koreans compete in very similar industries with very similar products it means that at least in the short run Korea will have a substantial price advantage. This could be enough to keep Korea out of recession especially with holiday season right around the corner.
And don't be fooled. The Yen is mostly being driven up by the unraveling of carry trades. Their economic outlook at the moment looks even worse than Korea's. |

You are right.
I've also read on American newspapers that k-government put over $ 100 billion $$$ into banking industry to help smooth money flow, I think Korea is the first Asian country did this kind stuffs.
President LMB is right president in difficult situation, he at least has some kind of sense about economy not like George Bush 
Korea, like many another countries is going to have tough time, but I am convinced that korea will be fine.
I also understand 20 nations are going to meet in New York to discuss about global economy problem and korea is one of them.
In America everybody is so concerned about their financial future, it's tough to do business right now, I mean any business. |

I've been thinking that this would happen, eventually, for years now. Didn't know how or why, just that it would. |

| Not sure it's the Korean government that is anti-foreign business. More like the Korean public is, and it kind of forces the government to back-pedal, if they want to get re-elected. Lone Star was a classic of public resentment of a foreign entity making money. So Roh decided he'd investigate them in order to make himself look good to the public. |

Damn, I'm earning in YEN, but like usual, I don't have any savings, so it doesn't really mean anything. I might as well be anywhere.
On the other hand, it is still damn cool and so damn comfortable living in Japan! So all is still good...  |
