I've said this before: A Korean woman with a butt is devastating. There is no resistance.

hey raketbaler, I remember you! you came to Korea shortly after I did, and you were eager to hear a newbie's experiences..

and now you're GONE?

did you pull a runner? and off to Shanghai??

why?

(actually had I known the won would dive this way, I would have gone to China myself, the earnings difference is now much much smaller and China would be far more interesting.)

Hey Bogey, I remember you too.

my school opened a new school here in Shanghai and they wanted me to get things started. I'm just here for two months and then I go back to Seoul. Not sure I want to leave here.

you're a lucky guy! you must work for something like the Wall Street Institute, or one of those global chains rather than a Korean hogwan Smile

I always thought Shanghai would be a litttle too crazy, crowded but first and foremost TOO expensive for an ESL teacher.. but I have a fascination with/about China that I certainly don't share about Korea (which isn't to browbeat Korea)

I'll be most curious to hear about your Chinese experiences, china may be in my future.

I just found out I'm going back to Seoul this Sunday. I'm pissed!! My three weeks here have been awesome!! I made more friends here in three weeks then I had in four months in Seoul. The expat community here is large and over the top friendly. Chinese are very friendly and not nationalistic at all. I just wish China had racquetball like Korea does.

I teach adults. Wallstreet is our competitor. I don't want to say the name on here though.

Shanghai is not expensive. It's the cheapest city I've ever been in except for cities in Cambodia. I eat a full meal for $1.00 and it's delivered. ESL teachers don't make as much, actually a lot less. I was still being paid with Wan though might of made me the highest paid ESL teacher in China.

I will look into transfering here to Shanghai when my contract ends.

a full meal for a buck delivered? what kind of meal??

ESL salaries in Shanghai are among the highest in China. You can make 8000 remnimbi, perhaps even 10-12. 1USD -6.8 remnimbi at the moment. It was 8 to 1 a couple of years ago.

with the lower costs of living and the current won exchange rate, China becomes VASTLY more attractive as an alternative.

A full meal, duck rice, vegies.
Not to brag but I make more than twice 8,000 RMB a month. The ESL I met here make 13,000 and still get their apartment paid for. I may still decide to come here next year but it's hard to take a significant pay cut. If my company tells me they'll pay me the same, I will come back here in a heartbeat.

work conditions? weekly hours?

at 13K remnimbi at current exchange rates, that's almost the same as what you make in Korea. (assuming a 2.something mil monthly salary)

in which case Korea become the obvious loser in any decision between the two.

I work 40 hours a week. I only teach maybe 3 or 4 classes a day.

You're right though, I took a huge hit converting my Won into RMB.

"Chinese are ....not nationalistic at all"

Hmmm... not sure about that but I'm new here. I have high school students who consider Mao to be a god. That's not a good sign.

The Chinese people I know, if you say any sort of negative thing about China they defend it to the grave and say it's a lie. Oh and that Tibet is rightfully theirs and has been.

There's a lot of nice booty. I guess you're gonna tell me there aren't tall women here neither right? It's a lot different than it was before.

Flat chested, but plenty of booty and nice legs here these days. Get out of Itaewon and look around.

tall women - of course

nice legs - yep, agree with you there

flat chested - it's a given, but sometimes you'll see women with ample chests. Nothing that would clog a toilet, but nice sizes, nonetheless.

nice booty - (???) . . . you'll see it, but it's pretty rare. It's about as common as seeing a Korean woman who doesn't own any sort of Micky Mouse-related apparel.

Hello Mouse!!!! I guess the booty is the eye of the beholder. But I haven't beheld much since I've been here.

If you want to see booty the south side of Chicago is where it's at.

South side of Chicago? What? Naperville? Plainfield? Just curious.

The only thing worse than living in the "Land of No Butts" (Korea) is living there, going to vacation in Thailand, and then going back to Korea. Pure torture!

I think the one thing that hit me the first time I took a subway ride when I first came to Korea is how compared to Chinese and Japanese girls, Korean girls have really cute round nice-sized asses. When people say they don't have asses, sure compared to western girls they don't, but compared to most other asian women they sure as heck do imo.

I lived in China for three years. Looks for chinese women depend on the region. Want to see nice women go to Hubei province or to Sichuan province in the west near Tibet.

I had lots of dates in China and met so many cool girls. For me Korea has been the opposite. My friend just moved to Dalian this month and he is reporting good times with the ladies.

No doubt China is more friendly. I find Korean girls to be more attractive but my house is near a uni so maybe that gives a false positive.

I still will put Wuhan girls as the nicest in Asia.

They are incredibly nationalistic. They can't take any kind of criticism of their country whatsoever. Just take a look at what happened during the Olympic torch relay.

The OP, lastat, noted:

Quote:
1. A tad more attractive
2. A tad more friendlier
3. A tad more down to earth
4. A tad more fashion conscious
5. A tad more educated in their conversations
6. A tad more open to new ideas
7. A tad more easier to party with
8. A tad more easier to fill out a bikini
9. A tad LESS caring about what people think
10. A tad LESS willing to follow the crowd.

Please tell me your teaching position doesn't require you to teach grammar. Rolling Eyes

As for your essentializing question, I'm inclined to take a pass. Invariably, however, whenever this topic returns to this forum you'll always get at least a few posters who announce with absolute certainty that Chinese women who are attracted to Western men have ulterior motives. Usually those who make this reckless and mostly baseless claim fall into one of three categories:

a) White feminists in need of a red herring argument to justify their jealousy;

b) White men whose only experience with Chinese women is in seedy hotels or virtual chat rooms;

c) Korean apologists (both White and gyopo) and by odd association the occasional Japaphile, who are always ready at a moment's notice to equate the caliber of a nation's womenfolk with its stage of economic development.

Having dated both I can only offer anecdotal evidence, which is something of an oxymoronic phrase when you stop and think about it. In the main, Korean women tend to be more materially conscious and fashion driven (with the notable exception of Chinese women from Shanghai, Taipei, and Hong Kong), strutting about as if the pavement were a perpetual catwalk while Chinese women possess more ren qing (pinyin for "human feeling," again except for the aforementioned locales.) Chinese women tend to be far more adaptable to new environments as well and less xenophobic. Other than that, I'd say they have a lot in common. In particular, if you marry one they become your branch bank almost overnight. And this bank only accepts deposits from you, the account holder--no withdrawals.

I guess you must be talking about the half-hanging butt of an ajuma! Confused

I have never seen that round and that nice sized ANYWHERE in my long stay here!!

I've heard that MANY TIMES about foreigners who marry Chinese women. That is one very scary prospect.
