Come to think of it, I took that advice.
How about; 'It's always better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done'. Words to live your life by. (Unless you're dying of an STD).

you can't die from an STD.

is AIDS and std? I thought it was almost its own seperate little category.
and since you can contract it thru non sexual means (needles, blood, etc) I'm not sure it qualifies.

funny thing about AIDS is that as the average survival time grows, ( I think it's now 10 years, maybe more.

what's the incentive for a 55 year old guy to really give a shit about AIDS?

yeah, missing those "golden years" where you sit in a wheelchair and piss all over yourself in a nursing home would REALLY SUCK! Smile

Most STDs are treatable. However, even the once easily cured gonorrhea has become resistant to many of the older traditional antibiotics. Other STDs, such as herpes, AIDS, and genital warts, all of which are caused by viruses, have no cure. Some of these infections are very uncomfortable, while others can be deadly. Syphilis, AIDS, genital warts, herpes, hepatitis, and even gonorrhea have all been known to cause death. Many STDs can lead to related conditions such as pelvic inflammatory disease, cervical cancer, and complications in pregnancy. Therefore, education about these diseases and prevention is important.

Better get them checked out bogey666. Wink

get an old cardboard box and put it next to the laundry machine. put dirty socks in the box together. stop wondering why socks always get lost or one of them disappears. use the box and keep your socks together.

when studying for a finance test take more time to review practice questions.

Hey, I know things are looking bad right now, but be patient. You're going to buy a house, and it's going to double in value in 2 years. Stick to your plan to rent out the rooms to pay the mortgage and sell in early 06.
You could do all this without me.
HOWEVER...
Don't take the money you get from the sale and try to parlay that into something more. You're too damn lazy to do the proper reasearch for starting up anything in real estate. Trust me, you'll make mistakes and those three duplexes you would buy in Indy would just eat part of your soul and the majority of your bank account.
So...
Take the money, go back and get a degree, and... No really. Go back, get a degree... Stop shaking your head jackass. Do I look familiar? Yes? Do I look older? Then maybe I know better.
Anyway get your degree... It doesn't matter what in, stop interrupting. Then live off that while you're in college and put away the rest. ...Oh hell buy a nice car if you want to.
"Why go back to college?" Because you're going to get tired of doing what you're doing now. It may not seem like it but you will... About the time you start thinking about cashing out on that house.
You see, there's a racket called ESL out there that allows you to actually live decently while travelling all over the world, and anybody with a degree can do it. You've just gotta' teach English to the locals.
See there? You're grinning already. And you thought you'd never have any reason to go back to school.
Remember what I said though. NO Duplexes in Indianapolis, or anywhere else for that matter.
Oh, and be nice to Krystal. She may be shallow and stubborn, but she really is a sweet girl. I'm not saying to stay with her for too long, just... You know, be nice.

Dude, I think I did the same thing you did. I bought a big house and I rent the basement..but damn, it killing me. It takes soo long to finish college, and most of my mney is being sucked in for repairs, and the tennants are brutal. I would just take it easy and not buy the house (which doubled in price too Laughing ) but I would live better. Money isn't everything. I good life IS !!!!

Interesting to reflect on past decisionslike major ones--like dramatic international moves, and how things would be differently now, had even one of those decisions been sent to the Recycle Bin.

Its an awful clich, but we truly do need to be careful what we wish forfor we may very well find ourselves in that very place.

In the two years + since I moved from Korea to Central America, I have found myself in a twenty-first floor luxury apartment overlooking the Pacific Ocean as well as the unbelievable skyline of Panama City, with a great real estate job in the worlds second fastest growing economy (second only to China; source: United Nations Economic Intelligence Unit).

But, its sort of a plastic lifestyle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgoGIv-SQNQ

So, Ive been having radical thoughts about escaping the proverbial rat race and finding one of the indigenous tribes here in Panama and convincing them to let me live with them for a year, just as they do, and writing a book about the experienceno cameras, no cell phone, no computerjust pen and paper.

Following is an interesting read about the various native cultures here. Im not so sure which tribe I would fit in with the best.

http://www.enjoypanama.com/culture.htm

The imagery produced by thought of pursuing this project, however, has sent my center into the minds den of spontaneous inspiration as a sort of internal defense mechanism correlating with the perception of my overall well-being.

China automatically appeared on the short list as a viable compromise (duly taking into consideration the "shock value" devaluation hatched from the contrast between subways and dug-out canoes) bringing me to fully disclose my fondness of running water.
.
But to backup three seconds and recapture the theme of the OP--"What advice would you give yourself five years ago?" I would have to say this is etched deeply in the non-regret category in my personal wanderings on this ball of mud that seems more and more quicksand-ish lately:

If you already have bachelors, go to Korea. If not go to a cheap school for a bachelors in an easy major.

Don't take on too much debt; stay within your means even it means going to the cheapest university or Christian college if you don't have a college fund or parents helping you. A bachelors is just a bachelors today unless a high profile ivy league school. It wasn't worth it for me to spend $40,000 more on an expensive and very challenging competitive large state university program compared to a lower cost smaller school that pell grants and veteran benefits would had fully covered. That $40,000 student loan just didn't get me $40,000 more of a job than any other bachelors degree would had and now I'm saddled like a small jackass with a big 400 pound rider.

Just get a degree, regardless where, and get good grades. Heck small lower profile schools are probably easier on grading and level of academic challenge. I made all A's with a few A- in a small community college for my 2 year degree, but only a 2.7 at a large university as it was brutal academics and competitive selection for who gets the few good grades allowed.

Think small and within your means when starting out and going...

In 2003 I had just graduated high school and was on my way to San Francisco for college. I would have told myself to get rid of the giant case of Tunnel Vision I had and to expand my horizons more quickly. I went from super-religious Orange County to ultra-liberal SF. Looking back I was happy I made that decision because I am such a better person for the changes I've gone through. But, I know I held on to such asinine beliefs for so long...
