|
|
My friend (really, my friend) is at a neighboring PS, and today we were talking about money stuff. She's leaving in about 2 months, and she told me that her school hasn't been paying her the rural bonus. She has mentioned it to her school before, since it is in the contract, but they just hemmed and hawed and told her they would fix it (and didn't).
I am wondering what her options are, if any, about claiming this 'forgotten/unpaid' rural bonus. Can she do something to get this money? They owe her for the past 10 months....a million won!
We are getting it...in fact, we get 200,000 each for the rural plus provincial bonus. I don't understand how they could get away with not paying it to her. Could her recruiter have negotiated to get it paid to him?
Anyway....can she go to the Labor Board about it? Is there anything she can do? Or is it lost for good.
Thanks. |

The rural pay is a big issue at many public schools. Some teachers get it while other teachers at neighboring schools don't get it.
It's one of those litmus tests where you find out how much your school truly values you.
BTW, it's been posted on here that GEPIK refuses to post the list of rural schools on the GEPIK website. |

She needs to appeal beyond her school. First step would be to have her main co-teacher present her issue to the relevant supervisor at the district education office. If thats not feasible, she should contact her Provincial Office of Education directly (or native regional coordinator if your province has such people).
As long as she's contractually entitled, theres no reason she shouldnt receive her unpaid bonus as a lump sum.
I cant imagine the recruiter has anything to do with it. No need to involve the Labor Board. |

Thanks for the info. I'll let her know about contacting the POE. |

A friend of mine was at a rural school for 2 years, they never paid him the extra allowance, he ended up fighting for it and got it all right at the end, which he was pretty happy about. Tell her to fight for it. |

Yes, sorry.
She told me that they have paid her the rural bonus for the last few months now, and something about them taking 'taxes' out in almost the same amount.
It was a little confusing. I need to ask her to explain it further, but I think they just pulled the wool over her eyes on this one. She isn't very firm/pushy, so never really got what she deserved. Kinda let the school walk all over her.
So if anyone else is in this situation...Don't be a pushover!! |

They probably had to take out a 4% kimchi tax. |
