I just went for a long weekend abroad last weekend, and was told during the passport check that my visa was expired (which it is) and that I didn't have a new one. Though the guy at my office had told me that the new job change stamp and printing on my ARC card were good enough.
I just asked again today now that I'm back and again was told that they should be good enough. In retrospect I don't think that I showed my ARC when leaving Korea before my weekend, so maybe it is good enough. I just wanted to check with ya'll to see if this was true.
What I have:
Old visa from first year, with experation date of October 2008 (expired)
new job change/addition sticker in my passport with no experation date
printing on my ARC with date to the end of Aug next year.
Are these three things good enough to leave and be able to reenter Korea? If I had just shown them my ARC last weekend would it have been fine?

Arc is all you need. However, make sure that you have a multiple entry visa. Or when you leave on your trip you are effectively cancelling your visa.
When you leave show them the change date on the back of your arc and they will be happy. |

Great. So effectively then the ARC is my new visa when given with my passport which contains my old one.

| You still need a re-entry permit in your passport to be re-admitted. Your ARC is NOT a re-entry permit. Your original permit expired with your original VISA. You can buy a new single permit for 30,000 at the airport or a multi for 50,000 at your immi office. |

| Ok then. I have a multi-entry visa, though it's expired. Does this mean I need a new re-entry permit for this year along with the other stuff? Or with my (expired) multi-entry visa and new stamp on my ARC card am I good to go? |

If something is expired, that means it's not good anymore, doesn't it? Do you drink milk that's expired? If not, why would you expect an expired re-entry permit to still be good and usable?
Of course you need a new one. Jeez, are you not really thinking before posting these questions? |

If you extended your visa and did NOT get a re-entry permit then you voided your status of stay when you traveled abroad without said re-entry permit and you are NOW on a tourist visa waiver stamp.
LOOK at the stamp you received when you entered Korea after this last trip. If it has a B1 or B2 written in it you have a problem. IF it has an R or E2 written in it then you should be OK.
