ha, the way it hit me that they operate this way is that I had this girl come visit from another town. we spent the day together, she was surely cute, but I didnt think we clicked. She didnt give me ANY signs. actually I thought I was being used for English again. I even tried to take her into a dlido shop place (of course in a basement of some building with a club next to it)... and she was said, "why would I want to see that with you, you wont be using it with me ever".... after a few more episodes like this, I had pretty much given up hope completely. Then, she asked if she could spend the night at my place because the bus runs too late back to her town. I thought, ok, reasonable request, I'll sleep on the floor, she can have the bed... no worries. She said, "oh, its ok, I know you know I dont like you and you wont try anything". Im thinking this girl is crazy, but ok, whatever. So we're there on the bed, and she says, "oh, my neck is so sore, will you give me a back massage?" Now I'm totally confused. Anyway withing about 20 minutes [delete this section for concerns of violating obscenity rules].

Classic. My buddy told a similar story. He went on a date with a girl and got her into the sack. They made out, but every time he went for glory she shut him down. This went on for hours and he couldn't get there so finally he said "fvck it" and rolled over to go to sleep. After a few minutes, he feels her hand on his back as she says "Why did you stop?"

Regarding bassexpander's advice, he is spot-on on a couple of points:

- "No" often means "Yes/maybe"

- You gotta text 'em like a stalker. I was browsing a Korean men's magazine and they had a poll of girls where they asked them about dating. One question said something along the lines of "How soon after you meet a guy should that guy text you?" and the majority of women said "That night." I recently watched "Swingers" with my girlfriend; she didn't get the whole "wait a week to call them" scene.

Koreanfriendfinder is full of fake nics, but ublove is alright. Drop a hundred bucks for the full membership, spam a bunch of girls with a generic email that includes your email address in a "yourname (at) hotmail (dot) com" format and the replies should roll in. I did alright on there.

Western girls might be more patient with you, but we don't like the games either, if you like us, let us know.

And I'd like to highlight that a lot of these Korean ladies use their cyworld site name as their nickname on UBLOVE and other sites. So you don't even have to pay... you can just add their nickname to the end of:

www.cyworld.com/

This often leads you to their e-mail, or more photos. Cool

Remember Korean men are very direct in what they want. In the west we tend to be more indirect. So if you're approaching it like "oh friends first" or "language exchange" a Korean woman will take that at face value.

Also, remember it's easy to get a date in Korea. "A" being the operative word. Don't be surprised if you meet a few women and you don't get a second date. Lots of Korean women are excited to have a coffee date with a foreigner but quickly understand the complications that come with a foreign boyfriend and it doesn't much go beyond that.

And never forget you're competing for a small subset of Korean women:

- they speak english
- they are prepared to defy social convention and date a foreigner
- they're not freaked out by the stimga of dating an ESL teacher

A man who understands the numbers are way,way against you in the small towns and Gangwon.

Ha. Back in the late 1990s when I started this online dating thing, I would meet women sight unseen. First digital cameras and scanners weren't very common then. And I thought to myself "how bad could a woman look?"

Oh god. I quickly learned. I quickly learned that, in 1997, if a woman was on IRC and looking for a man there she was probably 280 lbs and missing teeth.

Conversely, there always seemed to be better looking, more fit men online looking.

Yep, in GWD, it's rough number-wise. Still, when I was there a couple years ago in a pretty small town, there were at least 1 or 2 single cute women looking for a relationship (not with me since I had my fiance and all)... These women, 1 in particular, were English teachers at the local public middle/high schools.... The dynamic goes like they are fresh out of teaching school/newly passed the teaching exam, get sent to this little backcountry hick school like most of em in GWD, and would actually rather date you, the white English teacher guy, than alot of the 'countryside men' locals... Might try there..

You see mm2, if some guy is too lazy to read ur entire post and then they just see that last sentence + your (always changing female) avatar photo, its easy for them to think you ARE online dating fodder....

I've been asked nicely by the school to stop flirting with the young teachers...so I did.

Ah, yeah, you've gotta be shrewd about it.. definitely dont do it at work!!! Get them to take you to the best posintang restaurant in ur town to experience Korean culture or just get them to hang out first in any capacity... THEN do the filrting (some soju always helps but the girls are wise and they know u might be trying to liquor them up).

Better yet, be friendly and then subtly hint that you'd like to be set up on a sogetting (blind date) with their (English speaking) friends.
