Boot times don't matter much with desktops, unless you're into bragging. Laptops on the other hand. Yes I know the suspend and hibernate functions but still.

Agreed.

Are our lives that fast-paced that an extra 1min waiting for a program to load is so important.

tip to other mac people: stop trying to compare us to them (pc people).

it's hard enough having to deal with these retarded mac vs pc commercials, i don't need any more mouth-breathing freaks explaining to me why my mac is inferior to their oil-cooled pc desktop behemoths.

as far as the story is concerned, i'm going with what everyone else said: poor maintenance. most people simply don't know how to take care of their stuff let alone optimize their computer for their own personalized use. back in the day my power pc used to take 10 minutes to boot (os Cool completely logged down with the complete adobe collection, quark, fonts, etc while my craptastic pacard bell took a blazing 5 minutes. it's all about what you're loading!
