Ok,
I'm going to have a winge as a job seeker. Why oh why do schools only start looking for new teachers only a week or two ahead of time?

There are heaps of positions opening for the next few weeks, but very few for early march. Why is that? Acutally, given I've been here 11 months I should know the answer to that.

this is where my argument becomes valid.. in the stiuation of looking for work now, if you can bypass the money hungry recruiter you should slip into a job easily... but in the past, i have seen more jobs advertised for the future than i have seen advertised for the present...

just stay on your toes matey, something suitable will appear soon..

but.. it is kinda silly, the directors know when the contracts are going to be finished.. you would think, if they are not happy with the current staff they would put in a call early rather than later..

yea.. but ya should know by now these guys (all of them) have no patience.. albeit a busdriver, somebody standing behind you to buy a ticket or a person just wanting to cut you off so they can be in front while they walk.. the whole country works like that so why should they have time to accept the rest of the world's planning and reason? there are 1,000,000,000 things i could suggest they do different but in the end... would things flow better here? or is it best to leave it in this big pile of sh*t it is in currently.. personally, i think things would be better this way.. it is too much change for this race to comprehend in any less than 50 years.

edit: i cannot believe they do not have a law to force heavy diesel vehicles to have the exhaust blown from a stack above the vehicle... when i sit at the lights behind a bus and the light turns green, i nearly die from the putrid gases that these vehicles emit.. blown straight into my window.. having said that.. you really thing they are capable of any forward planning or common courtsey?

I know. I'm looking for early March. It's early January now, and all I keep getting from recruiters are "It's too early." I remember going through the exact same thing the first time I went through one. It was like "too early, tooo early, too early. OK! Be there in Korea next week!"
I don't understand it either...the owners should know now who is going and who is staying, especially if there is a clause in the contract that the teacher must give the school 2 months notice if they are going to leave.
If only things were organized!

Our school will have an opening the first week of March. I obviously can't promise anything since I'm not the boss, but PM me and I can tell you about our school.

I've always found the same thing as you CLG. Koreans just don't plan very far ahead as a rule. In fact short sightedness is a national trait.
I usually take a break, go on holiday or whatever, and then start looking for a new job a couple of weeks before I want to start, maybe even a few days before:- never had any problems that way.

To me the two greatest differences between Japan & ROK are the politeness(3 guesses for a quarter which one is far politer) and planning. The Japanese are obsessive planners while Koreans couldn't plan a clusterf***.

I'm going through a similar predicament. My contract ends in April and they asked me in October to stay for another one. I gave some reasons why I couldn't sign up again (nothing to do with the school) but it threw me a bit as I didn't think I'd have to think about it till at least Jan or Feb. Now I've got all this time to decide whether to stay in Korea or head home (heading home was a serious option for a while there but it may be a case of 'heading home for a couple of months and returning here' instead as I do like it here despite being far from anywhere largely populated).

I really hate leaving things to the last minute. Something someone posted here reminded me of when I was arranging this job. It was all last minute stuff and just created stress for me, but I feel I'll just have to play the game this time and turn up in May and start looking, or maybe send off some cvs a week before I head back here. It could just be done so much more efficiently the organised way. Frustrating.

I stated this in an earlier post, a total lack of foresight.

I have also eperienced that people will walk in front of you for the sheer purpose of being in front of you.

Also, a couple of times, one of those jackasses selling roasted sweet potatoes had the smoke stack pointed right at the sidewalk where many people were walking. Totally not thinking about anyone but their own selfish ass.
