It's your friends choice.. If he doesn't want to be an elderly 60/70/80 year old and prefers to rip at a younger age - its his decision.. |

Smoking is a social habit and us non-smokers have to tolerate it. Do you know why? It's legal. If you don't, you're being a baby.
Well...........at least according to some posters on this site. |

If you really care about your friend, do things with him that will not trigger his habit - like drinking, partying, playing pool, pubbing it, whatever. Instead do healthy things like hiking, mountain biking, going to tea shops. |

You know what, it all depends on the person. My grandpa was 77 years old when he passed and he smoked 2 packs of unfiltered (holy moly) and drank around 6 beers a day, almost every day. And he was full of piss and vinegar until the end.
Then, there is the CEO of a huge multinational that is fit as a fiddle and dies at his desk at age 49. Stress.
Some people can handle smoking and live for a long time and never get cancer. It's all luck of the draw we made at birth. |

just give it up. as a smoker, the one thing i cant stand is when people tell me not to smoke bc its bad for me.HELLO! don't you think smokers are well aware of that?
its especially annoying to me, since I dont drink alcohol AT ALL, and for people who guzzle down drinks like water tell me not to smoke bc it's not healthy makes me want to laugh in their face.
unless you're some straight edge vegan, you shouldn't try to stop someone from doing something they're gonna do anyhow. only they can help themselves. In fact, the more you whine about it the more they'll do it. |

The plural of anecdotes is not data/evidence.
Statistically you are much more likely to die earlier if you smoke.
Some people get lucky and some get unlucky, true. I wouldn't rely on that though when it comes to your health.
To the OP your friend is not going to quit because you ask him too. Just ask him not to smoke in your presence and don't go to his house if he smokes. Look after yourself. |

If someone asked me not to smoke in their presence, I would ask them to remove their presence.
Unless you want all of your friends minding your diet, your lifestyle, your social habits, I would highly suggest keeping your mouth shut. |

Be a real friend and share the burden, take up smoking as well. And nothing girly like Silk Cut light but the heavy Korean unfiltered stuff, wimp. |

Two packs isn't all that much, especially when you consider the fact that cigarettes come in extra-small packs here. |
