No. China will not invade. They will use the high level generals who have defected to control the military from China, in the event of a vacuum. They don't need an occupation.

I hate to say it but NK would be better off under Chinese occupation.

It probably would be, yes.

Have you all seen VBS's North Korea series? Really excellent stuff.

The arguement that you don't invade a country with nukes is pretty valid most times. In the case of NK I don't think it holds water. NK might have 1 or 2 workable Nukes but they don't have a delivery system. Any nuclear detonation would have to take place within NK territory. Essentially, suicide.

True, NK could put a nuke on a ship or train and use them to cary their weapon to the "enemy". But, I seriously doubt, if a war was occuring, anyone would allow a NK ship/train get anywhere near their territory.

Also, if NK has nukes, they are more on the lines of tactical nukes. In order for tactical nukes to be useful on the battle-field, thier use must be controlled by military personel on the spot. A battle field is a fluid environment. Conditions change from minute to minute. Thus the conditions that warrent a tactical nuke strike can appear and dissappear in minutes. That being said, I doubt NK would release control of its 1-2 nukes to an army commander. The use of nuclear weapons is basicly a political question and political decision.

I think China could invade NK with impunity if they want to. There would be negative consequences for the Chinese but, yeah, they could invade. Rather than use its military I think China would rather stage a political incident and quietly absorb NK into its territory.

a possible nuke has to be treated as a full fledged nuke. Doesnt matter if they dont have delivery systems, you have any idea what an exploded nuke, most likely purposely set off, would do to the environment, SK, China, JAPan, Oceans, whole planet , destroy it.

you dont invade countries with nukes, end of story, to risky, to little reward.

While I personally don't want to be in the immediate vicinity when the next one goes off, I think you overstate the effects slightly.

".......whole planet, destroy it." Come on, really? There have been over 2,000 nuclear detonations on this fragile planet in the last 60 or so years and I don't detect too much of a wobble.

Historically, Tibet, Vietnam, and Korea were vassal states of China.

China reestablished control over Tibet when the British departed India. The British departure left a vacuum of stability and power in the region.

Historically, Vietnam was a vassal state of China. After the French departed, China wanted to regain the "historical status" over the Vietnamese. Vietnam rejected the arrangement, and China invaded Vietnam in a short war. China got their butts kicked.

Korea was an historical vassal of China until the Japanese took control. Now, China has achieved what they had in the Qing Dynasty. No Korean will take charge of North Korea without the direct approval of the Chinese Master. Gee, people. Half of Korea is kowtowing, and the other half is bowing graciously to the Chinese Master.

China will not invade North Korea. Why would they invade a country bending over so willingly and graciously to the present Chinese Dynasty?

There's no doubt in my mind that if NK fell, China would quickly move to grab parts of NK it has been claiming lately are historically "China's". And no doubt it will move as far south as possible. More American boots on the ground with SK troops moving North, more cautious China will be to reach south.

Sharkey and facts don't seem to mix well.

Ssh...don't confuse the OP. He's on a roll.

The PLA has operatives (re: moles) in the DPRK and they're dug in more deeply that ticks on a deer. IF or when Kim's KimchiLand is close to collapse, they'll know it before Seoul sniffs it out. Bank on it, bruddah.

The troops aren't there to invade NK: they're there to stop America invading NK if KJI dies.

I'm beginning to see that pattern emerging.
