Who has a PhD?

Anyways, the forum has seemed quite civilized. I don't know why we need this thread.

I for one have earned this degree. Of course, neither ddeubel nor huffdaddy have, which is mainly why they disparage it.

One who holds a doctorate is typically more careful in his analysis of events, the conclusions he comes to, and the sources he cites. This skill set is, however, cumbersome in an online forum populated by posters like the aforementioned who rely on ad hominem attacks to get them through "debates." Were I to engage them in real debate face to face where they don't have Wikipedia at their fingertips, they would surely be torn to shreds, metaphorically speaking.

On the other hand, this forum has a small number of regular posters without doctorates who are usually very careful in their thinking, so obviously an advanced degree is not a prerequisite for articulate expression. They are the primary reason I continue to post here.

My question -- Why don't you practice what you preach!? Or did you really learn anything in your years of study?

1. When have I ever disparaged a Phd? Is it not revealing that after making a false allegation where no evidence exists - you then say how "careful" and "evidence based" you are! Mein Gott!

2. Stevie, you are a perfect example of someone who has indeed, "let their schooling get in the way of their education."

Keep on socking in the free world.

Herr Deubelreich,

Can you be more specific for a change?

Okay, guys, Ddeubel, no need to go off on Steve like that. Of course, it doesn't matter who the person it is, just make sure the personal attacks are kind of moderate, at least. Don't act like ad-hominem junkies. Why don't you guys focus your energies on the issues. This almost sounds like a bad political campaign. By the way, where's Karl Rove?

That said, this forum is quite superb in many ways. You've done a very good job. Many of you have cogent replies, and most of you know how to walk the line. It may be one of the better forums.

Enrico:

Just a correction: I have been ignoring ddeubel's use of someone else's username. I'm not SteveMcGarrett. My username is ManintheMiddle. And like you, I tend to prefer the middle road in politics. Extremism of the Left or Right does us no good, in the political arena or as seen here on this forum.

It does not matter if you are Steve McGarrett or not. If Steve returned with another username, he wouldn't be banned. A username is banned only if the person violates the TOS, ignores PMs from moderators who try to reason with a poster to no avail. Frankly, I do believe Steve is around. I feel it. However, it doesn't matter as was stated.

I disparage the man who claims to have a PhD but posts with juvenile tendencies. PhDs I respect, even if they are in basket weaving from second rate universities.
