This is surprising

Quote:
Video game consoles consume a "staggeringly high" amount of energy, according to a report the Natural Resources Defense Council is releasing on Wednesday. How much electricity do they use each year? About as much as it takes to power the city of San Diego.

There's plenty of room for improvement. We can cut our nation's electricity bill by more than $1 billion and avoid 7 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, according to the report.

Or, just buy a Nintendo Wii, which uses a fraction of the power other consoles use.

It's the transformer that steps down power eating up electric. Unplug anything with a transformer since they still eat electric when not using a game system, computer, or even if it's just a transformer with nothing plugged into it. Best to have a power strip to cut it all off and on.

This is why Koreans typically unplug everything at the end of a day or hit the breaker switch. Americans are particularly bad with leaving all their shit on all the time, liberally use resources like energy and credit, and then complain their bills are too high. Funny thing, it's usually poor people who don't conserve while the rich are often tight wads. Maybe you get rich by being frugal and stingy with your resources?
