I'm going to be buying a new HD...probably Western Digital - my Seagate Barracuda 500 GB just died, along with all my stuff....so it's time to change to WD, I've heard good things.....

Anyway,

Does anyone have experience with 10,000 RPMs? Specifically, the WD VelociRaptor 150GB??

Are 10,000 RPM drives significantly faster than 7,200s? Considering startup times, and game loading - I'm wondering if there's a noticeable difference.

What about the warranty? Lifetime is it not?

Sure there's a speed difference but not a tremendous one.

I thought I read they were faster, but it's not as big of a jump as it once was. Guys going for speed generally put two in a RAID configuration, anyway.

I'd go with two 7,200 drives in a RAID 1 configuration. You'll still get the read speed increase (which is where you need it anyway), and have redundancy if one drive goes bad.

Thats a whole lot of money your prepared to spend on a 150GB drive simply cos it is 10,000RPM.

Yes they are faster, but for gaming etc you wont really notice it too much.

It is unecessary for what you want.
