I want to get internet in my apartment (Seoul). My co-teacher recommended LG which, for a one year contract, is 35k a month.
Apparently that is pricey. All I want the net for is downloading lots of music, maybe some games. So the standard connection speed here in Korea is fast and no download limit (right?).
Any companies you recommend you are well priced? |

Go w/ KT optical 100m service. Only costs me 22,000 per mo. The reason you are paying more is due to ur 1 yr contract. If u sign for three yrs you get a nice discount. Don't get that meggapass crap, though. |

I've phoned KT and Megapass seems to be their internet service. It's 100mb/sec, at 36 000 for a one year contract - seems to be a standard deal. So, could you clarify what is good and bad about the service(s?) they offer? |

If you sign a 3 year contract, and you break the contract early, you will have to pay back the fees that were discounted...unless you just pull a runner.
At least, that was what the KT rep I talked to told me.
You CAN get internet through a local Cable provider for liek 15,000w a month. The speeds aren't great, but its cheap. |

The cable TV internet provider is dirt cheap, but we got the cheapest option, and it often crawls like 56k. We're pretty angry about it, because our options are to upgrade and pay more or break our contract and pay a fee. They always offer to send a tech out, but they never find anything, and always make some excuses. One time, they cut off some illegal cable lines the neighbors had strung up, but we still have speed issues.
I live next to a university, though. I think every student uses this cheap option, probably tries to download movies, and chokes the system. When I lived elsewhere, the cable was fast enough.
I will warn you -- make VERY sure you check your bills after they say they stop it. The different cable TV crooks i've used have tried to continue billing me (or have) TWICE in two different locations in Seoul. I honestly think they do it on purpose. |
