| I wonder, if Korea were still a 3rd world country, with people still using donkeys as a source of transportation, and it would take a few days to go from Seoul to Busan, would it be more charming? |

This is the land of frowns and blank stares, depressed tied up dogs and high rates of suicide, where even the birds are said in Korean to be crying. Get past all that and there are some lovely coastal and mountainous areas as well as a handful of historical sites and a few festivals worthwhile for a curious traveller.

That's something one would expect a Korean to say.  No, Korea is not more boring because it's more modern than many Asian countries. Geez. What a thing to say, to even think. |

I used to think like this, and I'd say its partly true, but then again there hundreds of places which are great tourist destinations, yet better can be seen somewhere else.
Nowdays, I think Korea has a lot to offer as a far east destination. It offers a more authentic experience than Hong Kong, far easier to navigate and get around than China and these days SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than Japan. Some of the Mountains and Historical sites are excellent and there's always a bit of novelty value regarding the DMZ and potential trip up North. |

| Personally, I think Korea needs to promote the DMZ more as a tourist attraction. They don't seem to do this much and I think it's a shame because it's unique and interesting to anyone into history or Cold War- era politics. |

| While Korea does have some remarkable vistas and some traditional attractions, they in no way are more remarkable than tons of other countries that most people seem to prefer as premier tourist destinations. Why anyone would choose Korea over other top asian destinations, is beyond me. Personally, outside of someone coming to visit me, I wouldn't recommend Korea over just about any place. Face it, Korea is not a premier tourist destination and as far as I can envision, will never be. |

Indeed. But what I loved about Seoul was it was off the beaten path and yet was incredibly easy for an english tourist to navigate. Osaka was another great destination. People tend to pass thru it on the way to Kyoto. But damn, it's a cool city to explore. |

| Someone on this board stated that he determines the worth of a city based on how much trouble he can get into with $100. In that regard, Seoul, and Korea in general is aces. I have really enjoyed my 2 years in Korea but given the opportunity, Korea just wouldn't be on my must-see list. |
