I'm thinking of hitting up Chinese new years in Shanghai...except one problem...cash is a little tight right now...it would cost only about $330 for a VISA and round trip boat ride.
But I heard Shanghai is expensive...surely there are plenty of cheap eats? What about places to stay...being Chinese new year, and arriving 2 days before the end, will we be able to find any affordable place to stay? What about after new years day?
Would $700 last a week? |

Maggies back packers is quite central and run by a lady from Melbourne. 2800 rmb is not going to be a bad week if you stay away from the 100 rmb beers and other expensive stuff.
Shang can be cheap if you eat chinese food and take the bus. Western food is expensive. |

Which boat goes to Shanghai and from where? Busan or Incheon? |

I mean a boat to china...I would then take a train to shanghai.
Also, it being new years...would there be any rooms available? Prices jacked up. |

| Trains suck at new years in China. why not get a cheap flight over to Shanghai or take the boat to Quindao and just enjoy that city. Even better go up to Harbin from Dalian. |

My friend has a hard on for shanghai and he's the one who organized the trip .....he says new years there would be off the hook...I'm inclined to believe it.
News years in ShangHai will bet better than news years in Harbin. |

| I won't wast time with long explanations.....but having lived in China for a while, trust me, you do not want to show up there during Chinese New Years and try to buy a train ticket!! You will be sad, very sad. Need explanations...just Google "train Chinese New Year." |
