Not that I am planning to go home or anything, but it would make more sense to me that the ps system would allow FTs to take vacation around the typical western holidays to be with their families if they wanted to. Instead, they seem to schedule these winter camps during those times and leave you scrambling to make plans for vacation during February.
I've been in Korea long enough to know that very little makes sense and that they truly don't have a sense of our culture or care about it in this respect. |

Why would the school system in a NON-western country adjust their system to suit a few temporary Western workers? They have their own schedule to keep and can't throw that off just to suit a few people.

Why would they follow Western culture, when in Korea? If you want "typical Western holidays" work in the West. If you want to work in another country....well, they are not going to adjust their system to that of another country. It's nothing to do with not having a sense of culture or care about it. It's simply the way their system is set up. |

Wow! That didn't take too long to get the response that I expected .That isn't the point smarty-pants. Thanks for sharing. Moving on now.... |

You don't understand how important "camp season" is to Korean students. |

I think free babysitting so the moms can have more wine, golf or Lotte shopping hours. |

My winter holiday plans are settled as of Nov. 25 - hotel and flights booked. A month ago I requested my holiday dates from the employer. If they want me to do a camp it will be scheduled around my plans... not the other way around. |

Hell I don't know what my point was. It was misguided for sure.
I guess that I just don't like the fact that even though I am expected to take most of my vacation during the winter break instead of summer, I don't really have much choice when those vacation days can to be taken (ie..I have to do a 3 week camp, then 1 week of sitting around, then back to school for 1 week with students, then whatever is left I can use for vacation).
Let this thread die. I was frustrated when I posted my OP. That's all. |
