Anybody know these English camps in the Phillipines that the Koreans run?

I'm just curious about working for one. I've done camps before and have enjoyed them.

Unless you are:
a) a Pinoy
or have a:
b) 13a visa (non quota permanent resident)
c) SSRV
d) SSIV

it would be illegal and we all know about Korean schools who skirt the law of the land (and it is no different in the RP).

I knew a Filipino teacher in Thailand who said she used to work at one. She said she was paid very little and that several other Filipino teachers had nothing more than a high school diploma.

I think the whole point for the Koreans is to go to the Philippines to avoid the high cost of paying a native speaker.

It's not like Koreans learn very much in the Philippines anyway. It's really just another way for opportunistic Korean businessmen to make money from Korean mothers who are looking out for their children.

It`s probably more of a beach vacation than anything else.

QFT

I had one student of a student group go 4 weeks to the Philippines and she came back worse then when she went, so she had some catching up to do.

Another one went for 2 months, now the mother improved her overall confidence and fluency, but her son hardly did any better ....

It's all a big money scam, just like hagwons in Korea I guess.

Don't forget that they look upon this more as a Holiday, rather then a language "camp".

Their budget was 7.000.000 won for 4 weeks and 3 people, with airline tickets being the most expensive part of the trip. (This was before the plunge of the Won).

Funny. I've seen the TV ad for the MBC one. Seems to be a blonde blue-eyed foreigner in the commercial.

I know a woman who was cheated on pay and was pressured for sex by the bossman. Avoid these scams.

Ha ha, that's like in the movie WALL-E where you see a commercial for B&L showing all the passengers enjoying what is called, executive comfort, on the spaceship being slim, beautiful, and enjoying an active life style, but in reality, they are grossly obese and all they do is sit in hover chairs with a brainwashing time wasting system program running.

I understand the Koreans have become one of Borocay's main customers so if you go to Borocay, you will find many places catering to Korean tastes. (not what I want on vacation lol) Can you imagine leaving Korea on vacation or to go live elsewhere to feel like you brought it with you?

I doubt if they'd need my expensive arse in such a cheap English speaking country, so I wouldn't even consider the Philippines for a job. It's best to be able to work for a Western contractor or company and go travel with them. That's the job I've been trying to get for many years.

Yeah you`re right, the Philippines has convinced themselves that they know and can teach English. We`re not needed there in our current form (EFL teachers). It`s always different being a contractor or a real professional in a foreign country. Everything provided for you, nice housing, allowances up the kazoo...damn I want that. I knew this guy who worked for Boeing in Korea and he was pimping. Had a Chairman car with the exe package, 3 bedroom apt...the good life lol
