|
|
I recently went for interview at Korea University in Seoul and I hinted in the interview that I really needed a job AND and house, but anyway, they will give me the first but can't give the second. I have a Korean wife and 3 yr old kid and only about 10 million right now - we can borrow more I guess - so I don't really know how I can move there.
My wife claims that rents in Seoul are going up while house prices fall, and that people who rent cheap housing in Seoul are very likely to make off with your deposit, especially at the moment. I suggested commuting from Uijeongbu or Dondgucheon or something but she thinks the latter is a sleazy dive (like all the cheaper Seoul areas) and that the former is expensive unless you are miles from a subway station.
She thinks that if we live in a tiny cockroach infested basement then we can just about get by on the breadline.
Any ideas/advice? |

I live in Uijeongbu, not so far from a subway station (Hoeryong) in a school sponsored apartment. It is 2 bedrooms, old and smallish but plenty adequate (24 pyong i thingk). The deposit was 10m and monthly rent is 600,000. When we were looking that seemed to be about the price for many appartments in the area of a similar size.
There are real estate websites where it is easy to see appartments in the area, you wife would be able to access these easily unless you can read Korean. Good luck. |

Thanks. It seems like Uijeongbu might be a good idea.
Which school do you mean? |

Just the school I work for.
It's not a bad place and Seoul is accessable easily. Worth a look at least. |
