Wanting to buy an external CDRW (CD burner) for my laptop.... what price do you think I should have to pay here in Korea?

Went to a computer "mall" here in Busan today. A guy wanted W150,000 for an external USB 1.1 CDRW, and W178,000 for an external USB 2.0 CDRW.

Seems a bit steep, doesn't it?

To get a stand alone USB external type CDRW drive, yes you are going to pay between 120,000 to 180,000 or so .... the whole external thing is the factor. You can buy a standard desktop internal CDRW drive for 30,000 to 100,000 .... you could do that and buy an external USB case for the drive, but you will still pay the same combination of price ... and it may not work quite right. I'd suggest going to the Yongsan electronics mart (where I went today in fact) and shopping around ... the hitch will be that you want external ... but you should not really have to pay more than 150,000 (new that is)

keep your eyes open on the buy/sell/trade boards here and over at englishspectrum.com.

i picked up an external (usb 2.2 16x) for 80 from a girl on engspec. it works great.

since then i've seen someone selling a much faster burner for 50.

How about for an internal combo drive/burner? I got quoted about 280,000 (or thereabouts) from one guy -- is this reasonable, or can I do better?

Yea, keep an eye on the BST places on the net. I'm 50/50 on whether or not the burner I picked up is going back with me; I may sell it, store it, or take it.

You should be able to find one somewhere for a decent price.

in suncheon - 150/170 maybe, under 200 for sure..

mine wasn't over 200 dvd x 16 48x24x48 LG

i would imagine lots of places in korea would be under 200, the price you gave seems very high..

i have my computer guy coming over tonight.. let me confirm that price..

I believe you've crossed desktops with laptops. That's a fine price for a desktop DVD-ROM/CDRW but for a laptop drive that seems heavily underpriced from what I've seen online. You can't even get a half-sized external CDROM for that price, let alone an internal model with a writer and reads DVDs.

Yeah, it's a laptop -- sorry I didn't make that totally clear. The price for the external USB unit sounds close to what I was quoted, but I'm gunning for an internal... so it's looking like it'll be well over 200K. Oh well.
