What's your opnion of anju? |
It's understandable. I don't mind ordering some food. |

Order food or leave? What kind of stupid policy is this? |

damn that's sucky. I don't think I ever came across this problem, where I was forced to order some food. Only thing close is getting the freaking gibbon or whatever at clubs, but I only did that the first couple times and never went back when I realized what a rip off those places are.
I do miss the beer and fried chicken places. I'm hoping some day KFC realizes the error of their ways. |

I cant be bothered to see if anyone else has posted this or not, but bars dont make money on draft beer alone, not enough profit. If you order draft beer, expect to order a side dish, draft beer is really cheap; it's only fair. |

mmmmm....beer, chicken....mmmmmm (drooling)
I miss those places too. usually the proprietors are so cool too....
I used to dislike the "must buy anju places" too, but over time just stopped going to places that were like that... |

Luckily in Seoul there are heaps of places where you don't have to deal with this. Yes, it really annoys me a lot. I don't like what they have mostly and even if I did I want to be in control of what and when I eat, I don't like being forced to buy something I don't want, and I'll always walk out. I do think that some Korean business owners just haven't got a clue about what good business sense is, they don't think things through, and don't seem to realise where their money is coming from. When a big crowd comes in looking like they are out for a big night, and they don't want anju, and you insist and they leave, you just messed up big time, you not only lost a lot of money that night, but they'll probably never come back, and if that's a big group of foreigners who may be here for a year, the place that treats them well and gets them coming back is going to be the place that will win. |

Advertising yourself as a western bar and then upsetting a large group of foreigners in a small city is just bad business sense. |
Do you think western bars are meant to attract westerners? I think they're more about giving Koreans a place to sit around and feel like they're in a western place. ('We may hate Americans, but we love to imitate them!') |

Did you ever stop (or sit, perhaps) and wonder WHY the restaurant was empty?
Maybe it's because of the meat. |
I've eaten there a couple of times with someone else, and the meat is delicious. It's just in a quiet part of a quiet neighborhood... |
