Sounds draconian at first, but maybe it's not so bad an idea.

Then, if the guy wants kids later, he has apply for the right to use his "seeds". You ought to have to earn the right to have a kid these days. We're way overpopulated as it is.

Um . . . I don't visit these parts enough to know if you guys are just trolling, but as you should know it's completely unacceptable to neuter the male population.

I'm always happy to state the obvious.

I thought it was obvious that we were not truly serious.

Don't worry, your nuts are safe...for now! Laughing

In the abstract, it is important to get a handle on overpopulation. Problem is there are all sorts of moral questions involved, but it is an environmental issue that affects everyone.

Interesting idea, but what about the cultural aspect? Would a Japanese couple want their future offspring to be germinated (spawned? Whatever the word should be) in a brown-skinned person? Would an affluent Korean couple consider that to be an acceptable option?

Gestated.
Hard to know. It the Indian case it is mainly wealthy British Indians who are using surrogates from the sub-continent. People may be uncomforatble with the idea of a person from another race carrying their kid, but I don't think there'd be any biological problems as long as the blood types were compatible.
Anyway, what some of you are suggesting is eugenics. I know there needs to be some sort of response to the population issues we will soon face, but I think education is a much better solution to something so...extreme.

You know what else is extreme?
The grab for resources as soon as there is a population overload, along with famine, war, and environmental havoc. Why not prevent that problem? Education is just a small part of it. A Mormon might be formally educated, that won't necessarily stop them from popping out 12 kids. The same is true with people in third world nations popping out so many kids they can't even feed them.

We're not as smart as we'd like to think, in fact we are self interested and narrow minded to a fault, and sometimes things need to forced onto us for the greater good. Problem is, who is going to make those decisions? Well, those with the power of course. I know nobody wants to hear about it though.

Eugenics? Come on. Stop being so PC. Let's be honest. In terms of population, the third world nations in the southern hemisphere vastly outnumber us in the industrialized nations, and if you look at birth rates, there are no signs of them slowing down any time soon. I guarantee their genetic information is in no danger, they just need to stop having so many kids.

I don't think that I am not serious.

We have the technology and it will solve the problem.

Yes, Draconian, maybe even fascists in concept, but no doubt a guaranteed solution.

Educating women to become more self denying while a virtuous concept is flawed first of all because it blames women, puts undue responsibility on women, is oppressive of women's equality and rights, it must have been proposed by old men in suits.

Maybe then we should educate young men to the virtues of self denial as well. Listen even the President of the United States was unable to control his tendencies at great risk to his reputation and the reputation and esteem of his office.

I am not saying education is hopeless, leave it to the goal of disease prevention, but preventing birth through those methods is well just naive.

Maybe make the method I propose a free and voluntary choice within that education process then maybe I'm listening.

Also on the subject the vasectomy is reversible so it is not castration or neutering as one ignoramus stated above. You can get your swimmers back, the sampling and freezing is done as a precaution against the unforeseen.

You bring up Eugenics, very interesting. We do seem to allow our technology to go against the grain in terms of Eugenics. We use the technology to allow for those who by nature are incapable of conceiving naturally to conceive artificially, even to the extreme of allowing women who are totally incapable of carrying a child naturally or even capable of raising the child once born.

So on one extreme of the curve of medical ethics we have Eugenics and on the other extreme a kind of counter Eugenics of artificial life giving.

I think this issue of over population is viewed purely as a cultural or social issue. It really isn't. It's a nature, our human nature, far more base than culture or society it is our instinct that is at question.

The solution must address that which we do not want to admit to.
