Does anyone know a dentist where I can get a tooth guard for grinding my teeth when I sleep? My dog actually chewed mine into little pieces...ARGH!!!!!
I'm out in Gangwondo, but could travel to Seoul to get one. They have them in a town an hour away, but i'd have to go to a Dentist university, get an exam to test that I grind my teeth, then they would refer me to another specialist who would make the mold, and I would get it a few weeks later. The total cost for this is 500,000 won. Seems a little steep as I only paid $250 back in Canada, and was able to have him make the mold and send it to get made.
Just wondering if there is anyplace I could get this done in Seoul for a lower price and less difficulty. (I have tried the sports teeth guards, but they are not effective and do not fit my teeth closely enough!) |

It costs you that much?
Aren't they basically like american football mouthpieces?
See here: http://www1.shopping.com/xGS-football_mouthpiece
You mold them yourself with a pot of boiling water. |

no, they are much different. the dentist takes a mold of your teeth and then custom-makes the mouthguard. It fits very closely over your teeth to the point that there is no space. This helps there to be no movement when you are grinding. It is also made from a very hard plastic that is very durable.
I have a very small mouth and the smallest football tooth guard I have found is still too big. It bruises my mouth and makes my jaw ache. Not fun in the mornings! The football guards are made for men, not women, and they don't conform that closely to the teeth. I have to find a custom made one...Thanks for the link, though! |

I may look into one of those myself, especially if I can get a deal on one here in Korea thru the national health insurance program.
Having a hard time imagining falling asleep chewing on something or wearing something in my mouth, but dentists have told me I'm a big time night-grinder and I'm going to grind those puppies down to the core. |

They are made for little children too. I know -- I wore several throughout my life, from 3rd grade on up. Maybe you can't get them here. They mold very well to your teeth. You just have to follow the directions and boil them long enough first, then place on the teeth, and suck in creating suction that squeezes the mouth guard to mold to the teeth.
maybe yours is quiet a bit different, though. |

Has your bruxing led to TMJ problems?
I was having a lot of pain in my jaw, neck and face and upper back; teaching lessons became a massive challenge, especially since I use songs exclusively in several after school classes. I was losing fillings on a regular basis and couldn't figure out why.
I went to Pusan National University Hospital to have them examine my TMJ, and I discovered I was bruxing. I got the mouthpiece, and it has helped. A lot of the pain has diminished.
I am sure that there must be a Seoul University Hospital with a TMJ specialty center.
The doctors tell me that stress is the primary cause of bruxing. However, I know that other causal factors can be involved. What have you learned? |

I've worn one for the last few years. Good thing that I had a good insurance package at the time. The dentist charged about $500. I should have gotten one when I was a little kid, but I didn't. I've grinded some of my teeth a little too much.
I don't trust doctors or dentists here. I had a teeth cleaning last month, and the dentist noticed the grinding marks. She said that my right side isn't as ground down as my left. If I wanted to, I could take out the guard for a while so that the right side could get grounded down to match the left. She was completely serious. |
