I received this from a good friend of Nerine.

Her name is Nerine Viljoen. She grew up in the Western Cape South Africa.
She studied her education degree in Worcester.
She worked in SA teaching and found out that she cannot make a decent living with the money she earned there.
She wanted to go to London but things didn't work out. In the end she came to Korea.

She said language is no barrier! And went to Jeju with her church members to do missionary work.
She was planning to go to YWam next year and commit and to her mission training in New Zealand. She is just one of the unselfish people I ever met. She serves everybody and adores Korea and the crime free country were she could walk in the streets without looking over her shoulder.

She was very excited to see the snow and to ski for the very first time. As you no its a scarcety in SA.

She was also planning to go back to SA after her missions training and helping the people of her own country.
She totally loves SA !! She always seemed to be positive and making a difference when she gets enough money.

We were at the Korean embassy in SA on exact same day. The next day we stood in the same row to go on the SAME flight to Korea. (Quite cool!!)
From there on we stood with each other through the lonely times and became best friends.

I always told her that she is one of the few friends I think I'll still keep till I'm in my old age home racing her with my wheel chair down the corridors.

There is a group on Facebook that her close friends put together when the accident happened. It is in Afrikaans though, since English is not her first language.
It's called Bid vir Nerine Viljoen.
Which means Pray for Nerine Viljoen.

The donation details I have received is:
This is an account no. of the guy taking care of her donations from the time they heard about her accident. He is the one that sends money to SA and knows the families account details.
He is also a personal friend.

Nicko Janse van Vuuren
Shinhan Bank
acc no. 110 -194 -121017

Phone no. 010-3144-5369 and 02-951-3410

He will help the family with everything before they leave for SA.

Please note: I have received all this info from her friend Marilize Bleeker. I have never met this girl, and I am not personally Christian. It has nothing to do with religion or who was at fault or what will happen to that person.
The only thing to be concerned about is, if it were my family, I hope someone would do the same for me.

Facebook group: Nerine Viljoen has been set up.

The info that I have, is posted. I have no idea, but even if she did it doesn't cover everything and they'll be in serious financial constraints.

I bet there are a lot of western girls here that would disagree with that depiction.

I'd really like to ask you guys for just a little respect for this girl and her family on this link. This girl is in ICU in a very serious condition.

Her friend sent me that information which I posted on her behalf.

How is asking for a little information not showing respect?

You are asking for money, i dont think its out of order to want to know a little more about the situation.

I've been following this story on Brian in Jeollanam-do's blog.

From the Korean Herald:

Quote:
Police yesterday arrested a man who threw a lit cigarette in the corridor of an apartment building where he lived in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, causing fire that hurt a female English teacher from South Africa.

The man, surnamed Lee, caused the fire last Saturday morning while drunk, according to Mokpo Police Station.

The smoke from the fire knocked the English teacher, known by the initials J.N., unconscious. She was transferred to a nearby hospital but has not yet woken up, police officials said.

The woman, who came to Korea to work as an English teacher, was asleep in her friend's room after being asked to take care of the room and the dogs while her friend was away.

The firemen rescued two other people from the building who are said to have recovered.

This is such sad news to a parent. I have asked my son in SK to please send them a donation to help them with their expenses. An expression of support to let them know that they are not alone in their grief and troubles.

I'm confused. The OP said she came here to do missionary work, but the posted article said the victim was an English teacher. Did I miss something or misinterpret the facts?

A lot of things don't add up. The Herald article got the initials wrong. The Facebook page says elementary school teacher, the Korean articles have been saying middle school.

That doesn't mean this isn't a horrible event. Let's not forget that she was pet-sitting when some drunk guy tossed a cigarette on a couch.

How can you even trust that she was pet-sitting? Seems like all the facts are wrong and now they're asking for money money money

Chinaboy, this isn't exactly the kind of situation where you can run a casserole across town.

This is not the time or place. Take you issues elsewhere.

The info that has been posted on this thread as well as the latest info on Brians blog is directly from the family friends.
is it really necessary to get every little detail? The facts are she's in ICU after a fire. If it were you and your family would you be feeding the vultures every little scrap of info?
get your act together!

What I understand is that she is here teaching, according to her friend, at an elementary school in Mokpo. They came over together so she should know. Sounds like she's done some missionary work in Jeju as well.

It doesn't matter what she was doing and why she's here, etc etc..
What I have been given, has been posted.
