Here goes - from the UK

How we (mainly TV stations and papers) keep going on about how we won the world cup in 1966, and how this somehow justifies all the hype that surrounds our team now?!

I could list quite a few though!

Cinema and media in the states preoccupation with extreme violence. (Not to mention politician's penchant for war)

It's a little distressing to jokingly mention that the US will just "bomb XXXXX back to the stone age" and have it met with grim nods.

Incompetent leadership representing us, the invasion of Iraq, the imperialist conquest reputation, the world sees America guilty of war crimes, and a failing economy that the world depends on to act as the leader that keeps the modern capitalism model stable. There's a reason why the dollar is universal like English, but this can't go on for much longer. How the dollar maintains value is beyond me. ???

I'm embarrassed about this being American thing. Before about 1993, I was proud and felt no shame or embarrassment, but I did begin to notice in the early 90's, it was unnecessarily hard for young adults when it came to money issues unless you had parents to help so my mind opened to search for the truths. When I was a kid up until I was maybe 22, I actually believed America was the best at everything including innovation, technology manufacturing, military, government, education, providing its' people with opportunities, and facilitating freedom, but it turns out we're best at using brunt military force, making the rich richer, making the poor poorer, rewarding bad behaviors, punishing good behaviors, false puritanism, enslaving the masses to be working poor, and operating a government that's supposed to be for the people by the people. It's all wrong and contradictory.

It''s only normal to feel a bit embarrassed about being American when abroad, because the country is getting it all wrong. I just hope the world doesn't begin to hate us to the point it's no longer feasible to travel.

Other foreigners who naively offend Koreans/get offended by cultural differences. Foreigners who refuse to bend to the point of even taking a fork everywhere they go....foreigners who refuse to learn the very basic words and just look like an idiot trying to order a beer.

America's rampant military intervention in other parts of the world. Koreans I've met think that just because I'm from the U.S., I agree with U.S. policy.

The garbage they show on TV and in Hollywood. I think it's the main reason why Koreans think American women are sluts.

Crime rate, HIV infections (highest in the world, I think), incompetent government, most-likely future president is a cretin, terrible public-transport, accent, poor currency, affirmative-action, film industry, music industry, teenagers trying to be Paris F'ing Hilton etcetera, ineffectual police, baby rape, xenophobia, slow slow slow internet (at ridiculous prices)...

I'm not going to go through the indecent and shameworthy project of cataloguing my country's failures for a bunch of Commonwealthers and fellow Americans.

The only real shame I will point out is this: torture.

The rest are failures in which I am probably somewhat, if only incrementally, complicit. I'm not going to self-exculpate myself with excuses and whiny bitching.

Politics
- Limitations of a two party system
- Dirty politicians
- Lifelong politicians
- An inept president
- Electoral college v. popular vote
- Governmental need to have its hands in every possible honeypot (i.e. bailout)

Auto Industry
- Introduction of a Hummer by GM when 99.9% of drivers can live with a 4 cylinder car/truck
- Crappy MPG on most if not all vehicles
- Inability between the industry to seek change when the populous demands it.
- Few electric, electric-hybrid vehicles to choose
- Inept industry heads who seek billions of taxpayer dollars to correct their mistakes while guaranteeing no real return for those tax dollars

Entertainment industry
- Bad, horrible, wasteful movies & television shows
- Over paid, whiney actors who make millions of dollars to make the aforementioned bad programming
- Hollywood remakes of classics or of overseas films and television shows
- Lackluster musical artists (my opinion)

Sports entertainment
- Overpaid SOBs
- Strike happy
- Turning what use to be fun (for most people) into a business

Military intervention
- Blame T. Roosevelt
- Bad information going into Iraq, etc.

Xenophobia

The bloody Haka. Only the All Blacks should be allowed to do it, and only before a test match. Everyone including the Hamilton 3rd reserve women's lawn bowling team seems to feel entitled to do it.

Recently the Pope popped into Aussi, and had a chat to some Aborigine leaders about the issue of the "stolen generation"children and the role of the god squad in the travesty. A bunch of kiwis turned up and thought it would be a great idea to welcome the Pope (who works as a sales rep. for the Prince of Peace) with a fucking war challenge. Get over yourselves.

The swimming team at the olympics also drove me nuts for the same reason. Dicks.

People who think rugby is the one thing that defines our nation. Get over yourselves. I enjoy a good game as much as the next person but it doesn't merit the slobbering attention the media and the general population give it.

Ick much.

The awful women and the constant pandering to them by sickly male lickspittles. Also the related impoverishment and general backwardness.
