Careful, you're livelihood is derived from the actions of those "killers."

If you are going to righteously decry the actions of a group, don't you think it would be disingenuous to profit from their actions?

how exactly has blackwater made my life better by protecting diplomats in iraq and murdering civilians for fun?

They are all U.S. vets.

You live in and derive your livelihood from a country that enjoys its current status as a result of military intervention.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you. If you want to be critical and hold people accountable for their individual actions, fine. Do not paint them with the broad "killer" brush. You just come off sounding naive.

the only soldiers i owe respect to are the soldiers of the world wars.. the only time the western world was in danger and actually had to fight...

how do i owe my gratitude to soldiers who fought in vietnam, panama, iraq, iraq 2 ? did these countries threaten Canada , or America for that matter? Was your livelihood as a western person at stake when north vietnam invaded the south? were the VK going to shoot up your car and burn your house down??????? NO

stop thinking wars after the 2nd world war were threats to your livelihood and smarten up. you the one who is naive and fcking complete blind.

oh yeah , for sure, suddam is going to invade america, lol he couldnt invade a country the size of a postage stamp, how the f is he going to cross the atlantic ocean and put iraqi troops on the ground? youre right, he cant, never had the resources and never would have.

i dont owe shit to those black water warmongers, nor do i owe any gratitude to any other soldiers in the post 1956 world and neither do you, open your eyes

You mean if we wouldn't have bombed a bunch of Vietnamese people, they wouldn't have invaded and conquered North America, blown up our houses, and made us speak Vietnamese? Shocked

Simplistic binary. They are neither, of course, unless one is looking for one or another propagandistic angle. I wish you had added "other" in your poll options, Tiger Beer.

Blackwater employs former American military personnel who perform security functions for the American govt in Iraq. This has become a controversial topic. No more, no less.

Soldiers in uniform have done things they shouldn't have, it happens, unfortunately. If there are thousands of former veterans, you are bound to have some problems. The question is how prevalent are the abuses?
Anyway, if you are a veteran working as a hired gun, by definition, you are a mercenary. It's up to the person looking at that term to decide if that's a negative or positive thing. That's my take on it. I am not a fan of having mercenaries down there, because it seems to disguise the death toll, and having veterans die in combat means something.

Ah, welcome Sharkey. Another Canadian who prouldy defies the US military-industrial complex but could give a sh*t about int'l law. How charming.

You are aware that the UN authorized the use of force in the Korean War and the Gulf War?

well what does the UN have to do with anything ? first of all, Korea was not really accpeted by all UN members of the security council. The americans pushed it through when the russians were boycotting it. So not really legitimate.

Gulf War, complete farce, Iraqis were baited into war. And youre off the topic anyways. The argument is, why i owe gratitude for Gulf war vets. And of course I dont, Iraq was not threatening my security, nor were they threatening yours. The only way they could have possibly been threatening your security is with the weapons you gave them LOLOLOL.

no one owes these service people any gratitude. Today all they're doing is creating more terrorism and instability in the world. thanks again, usa

but please tell me how iraq/vietnam, panama, korea etc etc were threatening your livelihood? I would really love to hear the answer. If anyone could tell me, plz the floor is yours!

I am not an expert on the Korean War, but I do entertain the hypothesis that the Russians' supposed boycott was actually an attempt to make sure the war went ahead, for whatever reasons they may have had. (Draining American resources away from Europe, pitting China and the US against each other, whatever).

The only alternative explanation is that the Russians, despite being one of the Big 5 on the Security Council, did not understand how a veto works. Possible, I suppose, but...

On the Other Hand: I think your understanding of Soviet motives in the Korean War is essentially correct. Stalin had in interest in prolonged negotiations, over pows and other issues, through the war's end, which only involved, I recall, the Eisenhower Administration's threat to employ nuclear weapons against China.

The test isn't whether a country threatens my livelihood.

The test is whether the Security Council, regardless of who is boycotting or not, finds a breach of the peace of an international character.

It amazes me how some people believe that a foreign army must be knocking on your door in order to be a legitimate threat. Talk about naive!

It's a nation's ability and the world's ability to anticipate, predict and react to threats before those threats are standing directly before us that ensures our continued safety and way of life.

This doctrine of pre-emptive war you are espousing here is anathema to most Americans. Indeed, it was something the country has always stood against - until Bush43 and his cronies misled us into our unprecedented assault on Iraq.
