Has anyone hooked up an external full HD monitor to an imac. I'd like to do it, but I'm not sure if it will work. Will the imac output full HD even though its own monitor can't view in Full HD?

What would happen? Would a video, for example, show up in full HD on the external monitor and not Full HD on the imac?

Any experience with this? Please let me know.

My imac, buy the way, is a mid 2006 17 inch 2 ghz intel. It can use both mirroring or extended desktop.

Thanks

This is the 2006 17" 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, with Intel GMA 950 with 64MB shared with main memory?

Since you are running the video from your graphics card to the TV, it will not be "TRUE HD". You can only output as much as the computer hardware itself allows. You can however, set the TV's resolution to the full HD 1080i/p and that will help improve the quality of the picture even without it being TRUE HD. I don't think your iMac has HDMI but if it does get a good HDMI cable and use that as well. I have hooked up my MBP to my 42" plasma and even that wasn't true true HD, damn close and it looked beautiful.
