I went to a doctor yesterday that I've visited before. He's a nice guy. I won't mention his name because that's just not cool.

Anyway, I came in with a very congested chest, cough, and sore throat. He looked in my ears, throat, and nose, and told me that I don't have the flu. Fewf!

I decided right then and there to get the flu shot. I got it, he gave me an expectorant, some tylenol, and a cough pill and I went on my merry way.

I wake up at 3:30am this morning sweating like an ajumma trying to read the dictionary.

I went to school, feeling relatively fine except for my headache and a bit of body aches. By lunchee time I was in some real pain. I couldn't speak because of my throat. Luckily my school is really awesome and let me go to to an ear, nose, and throat specialist near my place.

So I go see Dr. whatever. I'm feeling pretty crappy at this time. He sits me down, puts something up my nose (REALLY uncomfortable, btw), looks into my throat, and tells me something in quick English that I didn't understand, and told me he's done. I got a huge prescription for an antibiotic, a straight 20mg codeine pill (sweeeet), ibuprofen, a steroid, and a stomach pill for the ibuprofen.

Fast forward a few hours later. I am at home, shivering like a leaf in a windstorm. My body aches, and I can't seem to get warm.

I'm now drinking some rooibos and playing Gears of War 2, hoping to be back at school tomorrow.

*** Too long, didn't read: Had a chest and throat cold, no chills or anything, got a script and flu shot, went to work, sent me to a doctor, doc says I have something else, gives me a drugstore full of pills. When I get back home, I have the chills, headache, and most of the signs of a flu.

So, I know none of us (or very few) are doctors, but do yall think I have the flu or just a reaction to the flu shot itself?

It's usually advisable not to get a flu shot when you are "symptomatic".

When I get a flu shot I usually have the body aches and some low level congestion over the next couple of days nothing severe.

I'm told by others that it's not a live virus shot so no symptoms should be evident.

My experience tells me otherwise.

I still get a flu shot every year starting five years ago.

Previous to this I think I got every flu that went around every year.

This is good for a placebo. Keep em coming. Smile I just can't stand being on a plane, let alone shivering like crazy and spreading my disgusting filth to those around me. Maybe it's time I get a mask. Wow that would be the joke of the student populous at my school Smile

I got the same cocktail of pills from my otolaryngologist for what she diagnosed as sinusitis. I have the same symptoms you mentioned. She told me to expect 2-3 weeks of treatment. Surprised

For those who haven't done it (and aren't currently sick) go get a flu shot. I went to a general ear/nose/throat doctor and it was 25,000.

In the previous 4 years I've been here I haven't gotten one, but this year there is a really nasty flu bug going around, so I got one.

have never gotten a flu shot in my life and have never gotten a serious case of the flu either. The fact that all the rats are clamoring over the edge of the pier in a rush to get a flu shot also means I'll never get one in my lifetime.

The flu shot mania in the US several years back was one of the most stupid and maniacally, hysterically amusing piece of ddong I have ever ever seen.

OP, it it's a severe flu and or cold, the best solution is to basically sweat it out/ride it out. Drink lots of hot tea, don't go to work if you feel like complete crap and sleep it off.

I don't think any pill or shot they give you actually prevents and or cures the process, at best it alleviates some of the symptoms.

(of course, if you have a bronchial infection, etc then it's moved beyond just being "the flu".)

flu shot = boosting american pharmeceutical companies
the only thing more evil then the killers of the electric car
and barbara bush

is there a list of ingredients on these things? no.
mercury is often used as a preservative.
they are still suing in the states over all the autistic kids
all the danger of pcp and none of the fun.
the flu virus mutates. it cant be irradicated like small pox
and polio. injecting yourself yearly with a mystery potion
taht has unknown long term effects? for something that is going
to kill anyone between the ages of 8-60 anyway.
where do you get these things? seven eleven?
dont want to be invconvenienced by the sniffles?
stop breathing

If you rarely get the flu it is advised you not get the flu shot.

For those who run into that year when you seem to have the flu for the whole season, I recommend you get a flu shot the following year.

If you are over 50 you should probably get one.

If you are over 40 and overweight you should probably get one.

If you work in a hospital you should probably get one.

If you work around kids that are constantly sick you should at least think about it.

People die from the flu.

It's the third leading cause of death in NYC.

Healthy children can carry the flu and pass it on.

No more high fives during flu season.

Here's an update... I'm feeling much better. I think it was just a reaction to the shot itself. But man that was hell. I had an awesome sleep last night and I feel 99.5% better than my initial sickness. Hopefully I'll be 100% for my trip to Canada next Thursday.
