I had a rather dramatic conversion experience about 2 years before I came to Korea. I was in a really bad place physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Believing and acting on the simple idea that God had something better for me changed my life dramatically. I'm serious about my beliefs and I pray every day.
A friend of mine needs a job and has an interview tomorrow, so I will pray for her to have favor with the person interviewing her. I told her that I will pray for her and I will.
One might think that this is stupid or foolish, but then God has chosen the foolish to shame the wise. This may be due to the fact that those who are truly wise are not going to be arrogant and prideful about that gift of intelligence...as I once was. They might even be willing to acknowlege that it comes from God...which I am more than willing to do at this time. |

What happens when your friend doesn't get the job?
How does praying for stuff(such as jobs) not conflict with God's divine plans as well as God knowing what you are going to pray for before you do?
As a fool, chosen or not, are you really in a position to question God and ask for the rules of the universe to be annulled?
I'm sure prayer has many purposes, but a wish list seems a little pointless. |

| I really don't pretend to have all of the answers, and my life is not perfect, still it is much better since I started paying attention to the things that Jesus said. Among those things were the encouragements to "Pray always, pray for everything, and pray without ceasing." I'm also not going to lose faith if my friend does not get this particular job. She will eventually get a job and if God will favor her, it will be the right job. |

| Which would you rather have said to you - "I'll pray for you" or some big fat Expat giving you a middle finger and a "F### You!" ? |

Amen Illysook.
If your friend doesn't get this job, it's maybe because there is a more appropriate job just round the corner.
I never prayed to get my first job interviews in Korea. I just prayed for God's will to be done. I eventually got the right job for that year.
Life would've been a misery if I had got the first job interviews.
John 17 tells of Jeus praying for all believers too, always an encouragement. |

Prayer and practical help aren't mutually exclusive. Plenty of people do both; in fact whatever other evils Christians are responsible for, and there are many, they do have a strong tradition of philanthropy.
My grandmother told me today that I am in her prayers, and I thanked her. That was wrong of me. I should have laughed in her face. Right? |

So why pray for her to get a job when God already has some kind of plan. Does God need reminding, does he forget people? I wouldn't have thought so, if God will's it. What if your friend does get the job and hates it, is God pulling a 'Job'?
Why does Jesus ask people to pray for something they have no control over, since God has already made His mind up about it? Aren't people just happier when they feel they are in control, and that the idea of not having this control in life scares them?

Who you calling fat? Again, there are many ways to show support. |
