This is obviously bull. South Korea has no interest in killing off Kim Jong Il. They wouldn't want to destabilize things. I think that NK is setting up to blame SK when their "dear leader" dies.

Quote:

SEOUL, South Korea North Korea claimed Thursday that it has arrested a South Korean-hired agent it strongly suggested was tasked with assassinating the country's absolute leader, Kim Jong Il.

The North's Ministry of State Security said in a statement it had arrested a North Korean on a "terrorist mission" ordered by a South Korean intelligence organization "to do harm to the top leader" of North Korea.

The statement, carried by the country's official Korean Central News Agency, did not mention Kim Jong Il by name, but South Korean Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Ho-nyeon said the North's state media has before used such wording to refer to him.

Kim of the Unification Ministry, which handles relations with the North, said he was in no position to confirm the report.

The National Intelligence Service South Korea's main spy agency said it was checking the claim.

The sensational allegation comes amid a serious worsening of relations between the divided Koreas as well as intense speculation about Kim's health since he reportedly suffered a stroke and had brain surgery in August.

The North has denied its 66-year-old leader was ever ill, churning out a slew of media reports and photographs depicting him as healthy and active.

The North's agency identified the arrested man's family name as Ri and said he was tasked with gathering information about Kim's movements.

"The organization sent him speech and acoustic sensing and pursuit devices for tracking the movement of the top leader and even violent poison in the end," said the statement, which was also read on North Korean state television.

Tensions on the Korean peninsula have run high since a pro-U.S., conservative government took office in Seoul in February with a pledge to take a tough line on the North.

Ties worsened earlier this month after the North restricted traffic at the countries' border, leading to the suspension of tours to the ancient North Korean city of Kaesong.

Or using it as an excuse for the communist sympathizers in the south to go after LMB. Who knows? Rolling Eyes

Yeah, true, but just because it would be stupid doesn't mean they didn't really do it.
(it's probably not true, I agree. But not doing smart things is kind of normal here...can't imagine the military would be any different.)

Yeah, that'd be best...they'll still probably blame it on America though.
They're like Scientologists are with thetans, except they blame it all on the US...
Kim: "I got cancer."
Lee: "Americans did it!"
Kim: "I got halitosis."
Lee: "Americans did it!"
Kim: "My wiener's really really small."
Lee: "Damn you, Americaaaa."(shakes tiny fist.)

Who'd want to assassinate him? He's already dead or dying. Plus everybody had lost interest in their tiny country since they haven't done any nuclear or missile tests in a while.

Hehe. OK OK... I have to tell you this weird dream I had, since it's related to the topic.

I had this very realistic dream (realistic as in... felt very real when I was dreaming it) that some military guy got in power because Kim Jong Il died. The man looked very smart, dressed in that typical North Korean military uniform. He was a known hard-liner in the party, very critical of the outside world, and projected to be even worse than Kim Jong Il. All my friends were talking, saying they were leaving Korea, war was definitely going to start, and my parents were telling me to come back.

However.

Then, I saw on TV lots of stuff with North Koreans trying to reach across culturally... showing off their "Juche" ideology... trying to positively portray itself, and make peace with the South. The main thing I remember seeing was a bunch of North Korean people on TV dancing in almost a "Russian style" dance where they cross their arms and kick out their feet, very smiley. They were trying to show South Koreans how to do this dance, and they danced together on TV. Then, I remember a moment where North Korea made some kind of apology (to the world? to the south?) and a bunch of North Koreans bowed apologetically to the cameras. I remember thinking that it was so good how North Korea and South Korea were finally making peace (but I remember clearly they were not going to join... yet)....

Hmm. Well, it sounds positive in the end... hope this dream comes true!

If it does, then I'll be the next Nostradamus. Mark my words! Brentodamus! Hehe.
Wink
