So I finally have some money to buy a computer.

I am not really a big gamer and when I do play I have never bothered with cranking up the resolution.

I do watch a lot of movies and I run a few GIS and statisical programs. I would like some thing that I won't have to upgrade for a while.

Could you recommend some components.

processor -
ram - 4 gigs of ??? (2 2 gig sticks right?)
motherboard -
HD - 500/640 seagate
video card -
psu -
DVD -dual layer generic

looking at spending 500-600 w/o monitor

I am also looking at getting a nice 22-24 inch monitor that I can also conect my xbox up to

Cheers for the help

You could probably get away with an e7300 cpu and a 9500gt gpu if your budget is tight. Keep the 4 gigs of ram though. I used to run ArcView/ ArcGIS/ ENVI/ PCI Geomatics on a P4 w. a 6600gt gpu quite well.

I did as well but some of the high def sat images really push it and running statistical worksheets with 50000+ rows can take a while. plus i like to game a little bit.
