I said I'd cook a thank you meal for the Korean teachers at my school. I was going to do Lamb meat balls but Korea, or Suwon at least, seems to be a baby sheep meat free zone.
Tried tesco and I'm looking for a smaller butchers, but without much luck so far.
Any one got any ideas? |

You could try itewon, some of the asian shops there maybe?
I've bought lamb at the volvo building supermarket near there. But it was very expensive. 40,000 for a whole leg.
How close are you to Ansan? I bought a huge bag of leg of lamb at one the the Pakistani shops near Ansan subway station, that was only 16,000. I could give you directions if you want? |

I have eaten lamb with Koreans, and I can tell you, not a single one liked it. Be careful with this one! Things Koreans don't often like are lamb, cilantro, and lemongrass.
I can see you bringing the lamb into the dining room, and proudly presenting your fine work to the Koreans... and then they suddenly clam up, smell it, poke it, saying... "What's that smell?" They'll eat it, nibble on it maybe, but you'll be looking at the table of food at the end of the night wondering "why did they leave so many behind?"....
Hehe. Anyways. I love mutton. My fav. dish in the world could be Greek style roast lamb which is impossible to find in Korea! (anyone know where?)
You can easily find lamb in two places:
Ansan: go to Ansan station. Then follow where all the East Asian people go, into the main cityish area with all the shops. There are a ton of grocery stores around with foreign food. Many of them have frozen lamb.
Seoul: go to Itaewon, then go to Foreign Food mart. To get there, go the same path one takes to "What the Book?" They have frozen lamb also. |

Yeah ditto. Lamb is my favourite and also what I was missing the most a while back. So, my sister in-law took my wife and I to a korean lamb bbq (neither of them had eaten lamb before) and they were both repulsed by the smell and did'nt like the fatty taste.
It's a shame but Koreans just dont seem to like it.
Oh, thanks for the directions to the frozen lamb though I will check that out and cook it when my wife is at work lol. |

The Foreign Market next to What the Book in Itaewon carries ground lamb at a decent price. I've made meatballs from that before.
As far as cooking for Koreans, I'd make sure to add plenty of spices to hide the 'smell' they don't like. Despite the fact that most Koreans seem not to like lamb, those Chinese-style lamb skewer places seem to be popping up all over the place lately. |

Hmm... The many times I've been to China, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Xian, most Chinese people love it and is popular in Chinese shabu-shabu.
Being an Aussie, I miss good ole lamb chops... *sigh* |

I have to agree about lamb not being great. My father farms the things so we had it quite a bit. I think roasted is not that great, but bbqed on the spit is good(goat too).
It smells like grass and is very fatty. I can see why Koreans don't like it. |
