I am taking my 2milllion won and converting it to U.S. dollars.
Two weeks ago it was worth 1350 and today 1525. Not bad with a week to go 1700 would be a nice Chritmas present. Common Won. |

The Won is starting to regain strength, at least in the exchange rate.
Koreans still have to pay a lot more for things (as do foreigners who live here and shop online at places outside of Korea). The exchange rate seems to be a political thing as the buying power is not even close. |

Why not wait until the won gets to 2200? Or even 2500? That would be a great deal. Getting half the amount today in dollars that I got last month or even last week. Brilliant move. |

DD's mention of 1350, 1525, and a hopeful 1700 are USD figures, not won. Maybe it would have been easier to understand if he had added $. Anyway, I'm sure the recently improved exchange rate has forced a few other smiles as well. |

What a pleasant surprise. This won't last long, so if you guys need to be dumping your won, the coming week or two is probably the time.
I may be able to make enough on this upswing to cover my completion bonus in one fell swoop. If so, it's bye-bye cold Korea and hello, Krabi beach. Time to get some boxes together and start packing up. |

I believe it was about 2 days ago that bloombergs was advising taking a long in investing in won. Of course this is for the big boys, but it does point to a longer term growth in the won.
I was really surprised today as I was looking at tickets for Kenya and quickly the price dropped from 2,983,000 won down to 2,343,000 in January. I booked the flight of course. But, will pay on Monday at their office.
I want to see what is going on about the won in the next few months as this time last year about 1000 won = $1 US would be so nice if that again. |
