I use to live in Daldong. Not a bad location, but certainly not great. I had a girlfriend most of the time in Ulsan and went to the gym to make life bearable. I certainly was glad to leave there though. I think almost anywhere has to be better. I lived in Geoje-do, Pusan, Seoul, and now a small country town and the worst of it all was Ulsan. Hongdae was great but there was always noise everywhere 24 hours/day. I think my situation is perfect. My job is easy. Everything is peaceful and quiet. I have a handful of places I eat at and always welcomed, and I'm not blowing my money every night at the bars. I'm not too far from Seoul for the weekends and the girls. |

The other catch-22, companero (getting back to the general issue of meeting and networking with locals) is that being a lone wolf doesn't help. If you go in pairs and start from tehre - then you're in. As a lone wolf many stay away. |
I hear you... I have found this to be true, that in pairs meeting locals works the best, the long wolf is a bit a put off and three is definitely crowd. |
