If you measured pulse rate, brain waves, etc., and showed people pictures of other people of all sorts of sizes, shapes and skin colors, you'd find that at some level, we're all racist, sexist, and against those who don't conform to what is a largely inborn sense of what is aesthetic (depending on face proportions).

The simpler, shorter version: We all react differently and notice skin color differences, sex, beauty, and so on. We make snap judgments (that's called prejudice, brother) all the time. It saves time, frankly, and sometimes it might save your kids and you from making a bad move. That's not to say that someone should pre-judge based on skin color, but if you're in a divided society like most American cities and you're in the other turf late at night ...

Obama's voting numbers should give you a shudder if you think conservatives are racist and democrats aren't, or if you think whites are racist. Close to half of whites voted for the guy, and those who didn't -- who are YOU to judge that they weren't considering his inexperience, his leftwing / scanty voting record, or lack of foreign policy experience in a time of 2 wars and maybe more on the horizon. Meanwhile, blacks almost universally voted for him.

Who's more racist now?

Very few gave a war hero a chance, despite that he had plenty of foreign policy & Senate & service experience. OK, so he told some fibs about Obama and lost our respect -- but Obama lied about himself AND McCain. So, we just elected the first guy with an alias ("Barry Soetero") to POTUS, and the 99th ranked senator, and the flimsiest resume in the last 100 years. Let's hope it turns out as well as it did when we idiots voted for an actor-turned-governor-turned-forgetter-in-chief.

To sum up: We're ALL racists. Blacks voting on skin color (and promoting blacks as head coaches, etc.) is extremely offensive to me, as would be rejecting or not fully considering a black, asian, hispanic, american indian, purple, green or blue person (male, female or hermaphroditic) on the basis of irrelevant stuff. Just do the right thing, people!

(And I'm independent, leaning conservative, and HATE racism, sexism or other -isms that interject into decisions or thoughts.)

Blacks vote pretty solidly democratic in general. If Obama was republican It wouldn't be 90% or anywhere near it.

Fuhrer Bush got 10 to 15% of the black vote in 2004 while John Kerry got 85% of the black vote that same year. If blacks were more racist, wouldn't they have not voted at all for either candidate? Not only that, Steve Cohen, a Jewish white male, won overwhelmingly against a black female in a predominately black district in Memphis, TN.

And you thought John McCain was more qualified than Barack Obama? Which one picked Sarah Failin, again? Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
I always knew conservatives were stupid, and this is post #2,567,094 proving it. Are you sure you're not a bleed-off from Stormfront or Free Republic?

Who's more racist now, you ask? Look in the mirror.

Yeh Yeh they told me in University about the "dead white males" and how they have ruined everything for eternity. so they don't read Heart Of Darkness anymore---it;s been replaced by the Color Purple.

as for Calgary there are 2 sides to every story. I live in Edmonton where there have been 6 gun murders in the last year all involving Somali drug dealers. a turf war basically and best of luck to em. but where you start firing guns in public places it's a problem. but of couse I guess it's "racist" to bring any of this up.

actually I'm surprised the papers can even report this---a feww years ago it was illegal to mention race or nationality in crime reporting.

A hero is someone who saves lives at great risk to self. McCain dropped bombs on people and got caught. Not a hero, just an irritable old man by 2008. I don't think you can consider black folks more racist than whites now because they didn't vote for him in larger numbers.

The Stolen Generations were those children of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent who were removed from their families by the Australian and State government agencies and church missions, under acts of their respective parliaments.[44][45] The removals occurred in the period between approximately 1869[46] and 1969,[47][48] although, in some places, children were still being taken in the 1970s.[49]

On February 13, 2008, the federal government of Australia, led by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, issued a formal apology to the Indigenous Australians over the Stolen Generations.

La Raza: "For those within the race todo, for those afuera nada" That sounds pretty racist to me.

Try googling Atzlan. Also, do some research on the urban decay that has taken place in the past 30 to 40 years after the evil whites have fled from neighborhoods in southern California.

Who's more racist now?

56 presidential elections were held in the U.S. so far and there have been more than 100 presidential nominees. However, only ONE out of those 112 people have been a "person of color." That's less than 1%. But that's nowhere near the percentage of blacks living in the U.S. (especially if you count the percentage of Asians and Hispanics as well). It has always been a privilege for whites only, until now.

Another thing. The misleading and WRONG interpretation is extremely offensive to me. The data probably is all true; most blacks voted for Obama. But the analysis that blacks voted for Obama just because he's black is so racist, and again, WRONG. Do you think black people (and others) voted for Obama only because he's black? So if 50 Cent was running against McCain instead of Obama, then blacks would have voted for 50 Cent, huh?

Don't worry, the Edmonton Police Service is consulting with the "Somali Community". I assume the murders will quickly stop.

For entertainment, I often search "somali community" in news.google.com.

This has been mentioned. But not all whites are Anglo-Saxons. Someone brought up Columbus erm... Columbus was not an Anglo-Saxon.

It is debatable as to whether many Anglo-Saxons exist. There was not as much inter-breeding between the Angles and the Saxons as previously believed.

What you mean by Anglo-Saxon is English. The English are one of the most mongrel races on the earth.

I am an Englishmen and I have hardly a drop of Anglo Saxon blood in me.

Just need to get that off my chest.

Not sure about that, but they seem to have the biggest sense of self-entitlement of anyone I've come across.

History also shows that blacks are racist. History also shows that Asians are racist. History also shows that the Arabs are racist. Pick any nation or racial group you like. All are guilty of atrocities.

Should I be damned as a white man because of something that was done by people who were alive 100 or 200 years ago?

The mature conclusion is that all people regardless of race or background are capable of bigotry.

P.S. I hate it when people use history to support their arguments in these kinds of discussions. Pretty much everyone in the past was a bloodthirsty murdering barstard. Slavery existed in Africa before the white man ever got there. It is not unique to white western civilization. It still exist today. Racism exists in all cultures. No culture is more racist than any other.

P.P.S. You are in your 30s but you write like a sixth former.

Racial tension is weird. It's like this presence that exists not just in people's minds but in the air between them. Sometimes you can just sense it, the discomfort some people have around mixed groups and certain behaviors. A lot of people live in little spaces and do not want anything outside that space to enter. It disrupts their notions and comforts, jolts their insecurities, and most would rather get away from that, deny or suppress, live in dissonance and intolerance, than see people not as groups. We cannot help but have reactions sometimes, yet we ought to wonder what we fear. It takes a lot of awareness for a person to alter his space.

Im not using history to support my argument! but the past 50 years is fair to use in this argument! and whites have a lot to answer for!
